I love it when people tell me to "book it" based on their predictions. I'll be happy to do so with your money, but with mine, not so much.
The way the team is currently constructed they will finish anywhere from 6 to 10 wins. It depends on how quickly Darnold and co can adapt to the new offense, training camp acquisitions, injuries, luck, etc. Positives: Fresh start, Darnold now has a year experience, new weapons on O, soft road schedule in regards to mileage Negatives: Shaky OL, lack of CB depth, new playbook and coaching ( can go both ways ) The Jets can finish 10-6 with a WC berth ( trending upwards toward 2020 ). They can also finish 6-10 which would leave Gase on the hot seat but I would imagine a 6 win season would be the result of mainly injuries and a lack of talent at the above mentioned positions. Luck, schedule timing, and a few bad bounces can also be the difference.
The Pats have taken advantage of a shitty bunch of AFC East teams. It will be a struggle, if we even get into the playoffs, until we can knock them off their perch atop the division.
This year will probably be more of the same. The Pats winning the division again, the Jets/Bills fight it out for 2nd and possibly a WC, with Miami being garbage and coming in last place.
At this late juncture and still seeing gaping holes at CB and Center, I think Baker Mayfield and the Browns will pick this defense apart. Looking at the rankings, it's easy to see: OFFENSIVE RANKINGS BROWNS 13 JETS 29 DEFENSIVE RANKINGS BROWNS 30 (With Greg Williams as their DC, LOL) JETS 25 Overall, the Browns are simply much more talented. Their QB put up better numbers than Sam. This is also a primetime game where the Browns will want to showcase the great additions they made. The Browns also just beat the Jets last season. I think the Browns will win that game easily.
