Weirdly enough, I feel the opposite. I prefer Fields as a prospect but have horrible misgivings he'll turn into Dwayne Haskins v2.0 if he dons the green and white. He needs to go to a competent franchise that can nurture him, not start him in Week 1.
I just worry about them both tbh and both of them or Lance need to be sitting for the best part of a season, maybe some garbage time throws etc to ease them in.
Pick a thread, any thread and this can go in there, did it really need a new thread just so we can see you're back with a new avatar? https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...-sam-for-the-9-pick.95523/page-4#post-4068372 https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/build-around-sam.95263/page-84#post-4068475 https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/jd-is-on-the-clock-too.95483/ https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...-big-decision-at-qb.95459/page-9#post-4068087 https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...ve-a-bright-future.94909/page-10#post-4064839
Yes, whoever we go for, I hope he isn't the week one starter. We've seen how that works out with Sanchez and Darnold. And the last time we took a QB high and let him sit, Pennington turned into a very solid player.
There’s nothing worse than the ..... teaser title. It just screams “ i don’t really have a good point but I want everyone to look at my thread”
As long as you protect them, anyone of them will be fine if they start early. If the line is shaky though, give me Fields. He’s had exposure with NFL talent level pressure.
You need world-class protection to ensure a young quarterback doesn't get his confidence knocked early in his career, when everything is moving at a million miles an hour for him. It's far safer to wait until things slow down for him.
Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson are proof that's not entirely true but I would agree that yes it's certainly preferred.
Dak Prescott is a great example of a QB who could have gone to the wrong situation and failed badly, but the Cowboys put him in the right situation to succeed. Strong Oline, constant playmakers brought in on offense, and he has flourished but he was really raw to start.
Watson was nearly killed behind his O line, it is remarkable what he has achieved, if only he had kept away from massage girls far more dangerous than a shit OL it would seem.
I don't love...or hate any of these guys. But Wilson (who they seem to be settled on) I do see some troubling red flags with. But they all have 'em I like Fields. And Mac Jones too. Just seems like one of those guys where nothing really jumps out at you regarding his physical abilities. No wow factor...but a guy who will have a nice long career in the NFL as an above average starter and can win a Super Bowl with the right supporting cast around him. He's smart and gets the job done efficiently
The line was significantly better last year than a year before, especially towards the end of the year, once it gelled a bit. I expect Becton to improve, and we need to see JD actually get a few players to improve the interior talent, but there is a strong possibility the line will at least be decent this year. I think rookie can succeed too, but if we keep Sam, I would prefer Sam to start initially to give rookie a bit more time and to further evaluate Sam in the new offense. If Sam is traded though, and rookie beats out a vet we sign (not that many really good ones left) fair and square, and JD further improves the line, there have been enough examples where starting a rookie is not detrimental to his progress. It all comes down to whether we have a good offensive line and if the rookie can beat out Sam/vet fair and square during pre-season.
Yes it's certainly the exception to the rule. Young quarterbacks have a tendency to be sacked more because they hold on to the ball longer and learn to read a defense deeper pre-snap deeper into their careers. That's why I'm pretty much in favor of sitting a quarterback no matter who is selected at this point. It takes a strong organization to withstand the outside pressure to toss them in there too early. If I remember correctly, the Jaguars had set out with the intentions of bringing Bortles along very slowly and letting their two rookie receivers gain NFL experience. They'd then put Bortles into the lineup in year 2 with two 'veteran' receivers. They folded immediately. The Dolphins made the dumbfuck decision this year by throwing Tua into a playoff race when things were going well for the incumbent starter.
