I would have been okay with keeping Rex, but your idea of moving forward was taking a guy whose teams have been regressing on the field and exhibiting less discipline every day, and give him total control as GM and HC??? As much as I liked Rex, and I did, he never exhibited the traits to be a head coach. Fantastic defensive coordinator, and I would have been fine giving him more time to figure it out here, but that was more about his personality than his aptitude. Things are starting to feel right about what we're doing here to move forward.
C'mon dude, don't you know that because Rex couldn't develop a QB that Bowles won't be able to either? And why didn't they hire a first-time GM that already had experience building multiple SB teams - like every other first-time GM has?
Ok Bills fan, let's take these these two posts of yours and try 'em on for size: To which you replied: ____________________________________________________________ To which you replied: You artless fraud. Btw, what's with your new Rex avatar? What happened to the one lampooning Rex? ______________________________________________________________
This is actually great. I really want someone to go back and find more posts like this from Bills' fans. I'm sure there is a lot of shitting on Rex...
I've been throwing my show at the TV for this kind of thing since Dan Henning. Who says the Jets have no continuity?
I don't know. I've read in this thread that taking time away from the game means you can't coach. It had to be all Martz.
You mean throwing the ball in a league where statistics show averaging more rushing yards per attempt than your opponent results in losing more than 50% of the time? How terrible!
I think a well balanced attack on offense is key though, you have to be able to run the ball and also compliment that with a good passing attack for time of possession and that's a big key to winning football games. A strong defense and a balanced offense is always what you want as an NFL team.
That strategy works for New England on 3rd and 1. They always, always spread out wide on 3rd and short. The more you spread out, the less bodies there are to block in short yardage in the area of the play. Brady made something like 58 straight first downs over the course of several seasons on QB sneaks on 3rd or 4th and 1.. It's because they spread out 5 wide receivers and he falls forward for the easy first down. Watch them this sunday, they'll do it just like that. The Jets have tried the whole "bunch everyone up with extra lineman" thing in short yardage for 45 years straight. Maybe it will be nice to try something different.
Cimini's writeup on Gailey: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/je...phy?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
All I am hoping for out of Bowels and Gailey when it comes to either Geno or whomever is playing QB, is that they know when to take the reigns off. That was Rex's biggest flaw when he had Sanchez, and with Geno. Instead of opening the playbook up and allowing those guys to continue to learn while they made mistakes, he tried to limit their mistakes by limited the playbook, which in turn made it easier for defenses to cover and just compounded the problem. It's exactly why Geno has looked good in his last 4 games in both 2013 and 2014. Once the season was already shot, they let him throw downfield and mixed the playbook up and all of a sudden he looked like a new QB. Same reason why Sanchez looks pretty solid in Philly. Kelly opened the playbook up and Sanchez ended up with a 58 QBR, when on the Jets he averaged a 38.
Unless Winston or Marriota fall to us, I don't see another QB in this draft that should even be taken in rounds 2 or 3. Hundley is just a worse version of Geno (All Shotgun, bad pocket presence, good tangibles). Petty is purely a system guy. Beyond that are a handful of shots in the dark like Carden, and Mannion. It would be ballsy but it may be worth taking a shot on Cardale Jones in round 4 or 5. He has a ton of talent but he is going to have to sit for atleast a season, maybe more.
I admit, I am a little worried about the Chan Gailey hire. I'm giving Bowles the benefit of the doubt, since he has better football knowledge than I ; ) but did any of your hear Michael Irvin on Joe and Evean's show earlier today when asked about the Chan Gailey hire? It was silence. He was speechless. He didn't know what to say about it, barely uttering a "no comment". Apparently he hates him.
