Agreed. GMs aren't basing decision on 1-2 weekends of football. While I am all in on Fields, Lawrence is locked up as the first pick. In fact, this might be the first draft ever where Goddell opens up the draft with the pick in his hand, foregoing the "Jacksonville is on the clock" announcement

Once Sam is gone, how many of Mikey Macs picks are left? Man, he sucked.

Please God, let JD be a GM savant.

First let me say I also have changed my mind on Darnold more than I care to remember. However after todays game I have come to the conclusion it is time for th Jets to say goodbye to Sam. There are a number of factors that goes into this decision. First, this is the last year of his contract so switching to a rookie QB will be helpful to the Jets considering they need a shit load of cap space to fill a hollowed out roster.

Second, after watching Sam closely it appears to me that he will be nothing more than a QB that can "manage" the game similar to an Alex Smith. And before people object to that statement please look at the dirth of 300 yard games. In fact I can't remember when Sam has thrown a 300 yard game. Yes Gase has tightened the playbook but look what happens when Sam is let loose to throw 40 times a game. What you invariably get our interceptions. Just like today at the Pats game in the 3rd quarter. Today was a typical Sam game where things look good and bam, he throws an interception in the 3rd quarter.

In conclusion I think Sam may have a better chance on another team that has a more accomplished roster. But with the Jets I just don't thnk it will work. Also I think we have had our run on USC QBs. What is also a big factor to move on to another QB is that this current crop of QBs looks to be outstanding. Kind of reminds me of the class of 83 with Marino, Kelly, Obrien, and Todd Blackledge.

I would not pick fields as he just had too many poor games. I love the fact that Wilson has tremendous accuracy and of course Lance has a cannon for an arm and does not throw interceeptions. It will all depend on who JD brings in for coach who I am sure will have a tremendous amount of influence.

Fare ye well, Darnold. Sam still has an NFL future, albeit not with us.

Meanwhile, in 3 hours time, Mike Glennon will be traded to Best Buy.

I do not think it would be first ever.
Before the CBA with strict Rookie contracts, I can remember more than once a team basically signed or has come to terms with #1 before draft.

The thing that bothers me most is how much better the offense looked with Flaco at QB. As much as I like Sam, I think it's time for a change.

Where did you read that he refused to change his footwork? If true, then there's no wonder he failed, and he deserved to fail. If that gets out, it could really hurt his trade value, whatever it presently is.

If what K'OB read is true, and Sam isn't coachable/refused to change his footwork, and if he isn't watching film, there is no way JD and the new HC should decide to roll with him. If they do, I'm done just as if Gase was back, because that will mean that they're just as stupid as Gase and there is no hope.

Any one who ACTUALLY watched him in college and not highlight films knew this was what was gonna happen. We still rooted for the kid, but it was obvious. He's not built for the NFL, he still can't read defenses.

If Sam has an NFL future, it as a bench rider or maybe as a towel boy, although he'd probably miss and throw the towel in the shower or trash can.

It was on here, it was just the other day but I can't remember who it was but they said Allen had worked hard to change his faults and was reaping the benefit but Darnold had said he didn't want to change his footwork as he was comfy with how it was.

A fitting end I would say, as this one game pretty much epitomizes his entire stay with the Jets. Saw some flashes early, some potential, made some good throws, a TD, but at the end too many TOs, poor defensive reads, and overall a poor and forgettable performance. It's time to move on.
