Brady may as well play another 29 years so he can win a Super Bowl with every franchise ... except for the Dolphins, of course.
For screens to work the receiver needs to get out into the flats w/o the QB being under immediate unintended pressure. Mahomes was under pressure from the get-go the whole game. It's one thing to setup a screen by trapping a DE inside. It's a whole different story when the DE/OLB is in the QB's face immediately. You can't "trap" a guy when you can't keep him out of the backfield in the first place. That's the problem the Chiefs had the entire game. The idea is to get a guy pushing upfield really hard, maybe with a chip block from the intended receiver before he releases into the flats. However when you can't stop that guy from bee-lining for the QB anyway there's no time to setup the screen. Instead in that situation you roll the QB and hope he can beat everybody to the outside, which is what the Chiefs did with Mahomes throughout the game.
You're missing the point. The pressure wasn't coming from the interior. The pressure was coming from the edge. Immediate pressure on a screen pass usually comes from the interior on a screen to which was fine for Kansas City all night. They got wrecked by JPP and Barrett not Suh and V. The idea of a screen is to influence the end up the field and throw it behind him. If you have an overaggressive defense you can leave the play side tackle on an island and set that tackle on a deep pass set and let the guard and center go dig out the safety and linebacker. Even if unsuccessful, it'll slow down the defensive end a half a second because he'll have seen the same action a couple times and react to it. Andy Reid made a living doing this with has massive tackle Tra' Thomas in Philadelphia and throwing it right behind him to Westbrook when he was with the Eagles. He didn't try it ONCE tonight. Throwing screens should be in every coaches playbook to slow down a relentless edge rush. Andy Reid provided this tool to the rest of the NFL in the 2000's and abandoned this principle tonight.
yeah but dont you hate Belichick too Brook! so that would be a third reason to have pulled for the Bucs tonight, no?
Did anyone not give a shit about this Super Bowl? I mean it’s been another year with Brady playing and the media just slobbering all of him. They absolutely can’t get enough of this guy. Bucs played a tremendous defense with a coach who failed to make it here (like all the other coaches that come here). Maybe I losing interest in the sport but these games aren’t as fun as they used to be.
I was excited for the matchup. I picked Tampa, but I didnt expect it to play out the way it did. The Chiefs offense just sucked.
That may be true but it doesn't need saying over and over again on a Jets fan forum lol not one where a ruthless mod has done his dough on KC and really, really hates Tom Brady. ps I will just leave this here for you to glance at!!! https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/f-ck-tom-brady.95196/page-3
To us it’s like watching the bad guy win again and again but hearing everyone yell “Wow this villain is the greatest at winning! Please enjoy how much how great a moment this is!” I couldn’t care less.
