Were they or did it look like that because there was space when the play was over? It sure seemed to me that Buffalo sat on all the short stuff and clogged the middle taking away quick throws
It wasn't "luckily made". Pinero drilled it through with ease. The only team that got lucky was Buffalo. Their 7 yard punt gave the ball to the Jets at the 21. They were lucky the Jets QB sucks so badly he took the ball backwards 10 yards FOR them. A good QB makes the score 14-13 Jets there
recently I've come around to Zack. For most of the year, I just didn't like what I was seeing and posted that...but to be fair he did cut down on the bad throws and ints and became more of a "game manager" type player that has good arm talent. Was it his maturation? Was it John Beck whispering in his ear? Was it HC/OC telling him to stop with the HB? Was the game slowing down for him? Probably all of the foregoing... Hopefully he will learn to not lose 20 yards scrambling backwards and either take the sack or throw it away. As for a grade I say incomplete... Like Sam, this guy's OL was crap most of the year and he spent a lot of time running for his life... For me at least, the honeymoon (and excuses) is/are over for him, and this CS as well as the FO who will be under pressure to duplicate last year's draft and spend in FA. My expectation is that everyone will make the second-year leap... and this team will play the way it did the last 7.5 quarters of this season... However, if they look like they did at the beginning of last year then we probably have the wrong people in charge. Again.
After a full season of Zach I see a ceiling of Baker Mayfield, with a lot of work to get there. Now Mayfield has won a playoff game. So there's that. I don't see him ever rising beyond that level, and on the Jets, its more likely he never makes that level.
My reply to ouchy and JV said that I think the 15 yards backwards is ridiculous and that's not what I would classify as drifting. The Barry Sanders-esque running around and reversing fields is ridiculous. Modern day QBs drift back in the pocket 3-4 yards to buy themselves an extra half second and avoid a big hit.
You do realize that the OL was missing four of its starters and they were without their best RB? Of course you don't. That would conflict with your Wilson hating agenda. EDIT: Sorry, THREE of its starters.
They werent missing their best RB, Carter played. And I'm not hating on Wilson, I'm just not interested in making so many excuses for him when he moves the ball 5 net yards through the air for the game, the whole game.
Before yesterday he hadn't been doing that drift backwards. I think it was simply a response to the fact that there was zero pocket to even step up into. The few times he tried to step up he found it better to run the ball himself rather than throw to guys who couldn't get separation or catch the ball.
C - It was a tale of two halves. The first half of the season, Wilson looked like he didn't belong. The second half of the season, Wilson showed he has the potential to be an above-average NFL QB. The jury is obviously still out.
Once again we have the worst starting QB in the league, and it will be a long offseason of homers telling us why it was all the other players fault. Yet, the fact that we have the worst starting QB in the league remains. Its like 2019 all over again.
Depressing. There are no magic beans. I wish they would stop using the draft every 2-3 years on some hot shot QB as if they were magic beans. Build something first and then pop in a QB
There was one play where McDermott got badly beaten by the rusher and actually pushed the rusher INTO wilson.
Something besides his backup level play bothers me about Zach. He isn't a leader. I mean this. I've not seen him take the reigns one time and lift the team up. Either with his words or his play. All season long, whenever we see him on the sidelines he's looking at the tablet or alone sitting and staring into space. When nobody on the sidelines other than the coaches talks to the QB it means he is not viewed as a leader. Beyond this, and its speculation I admit, but it seems like Crowder, Cole, and Mims don't really want to be here. Maybe this is partly the Jets overall, but their was a lot of eyes rolls and head shakes in Zach's direction after throws. Maybe that was because he was the 4th best QB on the roster? I mean, if you a team leader your team doesn't come into the locker room chanting your backups name after a win. This team knew Zach wasn't a leader. They act like they have to tolerate him because he's the rich kid (draft wise). I just don't see any redeeming quality that indicates Zach is anything more than a backup.
