Zach is destined for stardom. Can you think of any NFL player that put it a bigger offseason effort to do what the coaches asked?
I think we will need a whole buffet of crow this season. Between Wilson and Becton, a shovel will be needed to shovel it all down.
Zach Wilson will prove his doubters wrong and have at least an above average year (assuming no serious injures).
Because one is having all the right pieces needed and the other is those pieces working together to produce
Did Zach get better at the end of the year or did Lafleur? People forget that our first time OC and play caller was learning also. The offense's old hand QB coach unfortunately passed away. They were both learning. People quickly point out that our offense was decimated by injuries by the end of the year but we also played some easier defenses. I hope Lafleur is able to take these new offensive weapons and create a coherent offensive plan. We are vastly improved on paper. Now we need coherent plans to use our weapons vs what a opposing defense's weaknesses are and an ability to adjust as defenses adjust. If we can establish a solid run game that alone will put Zach in better situations and helps our defense by allowing them some rest. There is an art to play calling and setting things up instead of just pulling plays out of a hat. I hope we see that. We should also see some week to week variability in plans based on what defenses we are facing. It will be interesting.
The earlier part of the sentence said they have passed the tipping point RIGHT NOW that comes when the new talent turns things in your favor. Presumably, that's on the field because that's the only thing that matters. We'll know soon enough.
Stop thinking "presumably". That's where you are trying to criticize what I am saying but failing. On paper, the Jets have passed that tipping point where things will inevitably start going in our favor. I qualify that sentence by saying I'm not sure when it happens on the field. In other words, everyone knows they haven't done it on the field. That's obvious. But everyone who thinks the Jets are building their team correctly also believes there will inevitably come a time, likely this season, where the talent starts to show. In the past, and specifically because the team had so little talent, that their area to obtain a win against any NFL team was a thin one. They pretty much had to a play a perfect game to win. Now, and specifically because the talent level has risen dramatically, the Jets have passed, in my opinion you're welcome to have your own, that level where things start to go in our favor.....
The progression the Jets are on right now resembles the 1978 Jets. Lots of talent being brought in, a questionable QB the team is committed too, likely up and down results for a few years and then the team is looking for a new QB.
It's not a criticism, it's a difference of opinion. You say they've passed the tipping point "RIGHT NOW" and then say you don't know how long it will be for results on the field but some day it will be inevitable. Where does it matter except on the playing field? What else would define the tipping point? Wins and losses is how the NFL is scored, there is no "on paper".
I see a whole lot of wishing it to reality. I’d be delighted to eat crow if it means finally watching a team that wins games.
It's trending it that direction. I don't think I've seen you being negative about Wilson or Becton but that's ok. Stand up the the other guy
Why is having a negative view of a player inherently a bad thing? What a bizarre stance, as if players can't be bad or it somehow makes someone a bad fan to not be convinced a player is going to be good or improve. The strangest part is that with Wilson, he legitimately played poorly last year. That doesn't mean he'll never improve or anything, but it seems exceedingly odd to take issue with people for calling poor play what it is. Justin Fields last year: 58.9% completion 7 TDs 10 INTs 6.9 Y/A Zach Wilson last year: 55.6% completion 9 TDs 11 INTs 6.1 Y/A You spent much of last season attacking people who wanted to draft the first guy and you've spent much of this offseason attacking people who aren't totally convinced yet by the second guy. Unfairly biased much?
Remember, Tampa had no one on their DLine healthy either. the DLine was all practice squad players for the game. Don't forget this fact.
