If we had all our starters (Becton, Carter, Davis, Moore, et al) that we started the season with playing yesterday, I would give Zach a B for his outing, but since he was basically carrying the team, or at least the offense yesterday with a bunch of WRs who barely belong in the NFL, and TEs and RBs who may not make too many other teams, and he had the Jets in position to win yesterday, I give him an "A."
Spot on! With some of the comments I've seen in here just over the last couple of days, never mind the whole season, one would think that some of these posters know nothing about football their expectations are so totally unrealistic for a rookie QB, especially one in the situation that Zach has been in this season. They act like Zach is the first rookie QB to ever struggle his rookie season, instead of the fact that most of the rookie QBs who start struggle. Justin Herbert has them thinking that it's the norm for all rookie QBs should play like that their rookie season. In reality, however, it has little to do with how Zach has played. They're just so frustrated, bitter and pessimistic about everything Jets that their thinking and perspective is totally colored by that and they just look for the negatives.
Congrats on the OSU win! That was one of the most exciting bowl games I've ever seen. Their two top WRs were out, and their backups may even be better. Harrison was awesome, but the other kid (I forget his name) was amazing. OSU should be in the hunt for the national championship next season if they have any defense at all and a good OL.
The main change in LeFleur (besides moving up to the booth) is he's stopped calling game plan that put the weight of success on Zack's arm. To start the season, LeFleur treated Zack like an all pro and game planned to win every game on Zack's unique throwing ability. Way too much, way too soon. But now (finally) he's calling game plans more like Belicheck would do here....he's bringing Zack along slowly and putting more of the 'win responsibility' on the running game and on the defense. Having his top 3 WRs out may have actually helped Zack, in that he wasn't going to win a shoot out so just stay calm and run the ball and take the easy shots the Defense gives him.
I think you should ban him for a week, a slap on the wrist may give him a better attitude and lead to better behaviour
ZW was solid and agree he played his best game. As I stated in previous thread several days ago, regardless of how he performs the last 2 games, we re counting and relying him as the starter next season. Let the kid continue to grow and learn. We don’t need to worry whether he s a FQB right now, and that takes care of itself. What I liked from the game he had few 3 in and outs, moved the chains and ate up the clock especially the last full possession before Brady took it down to take the lead. I didn’t grade him but he was solid, efficient and and a very good game. Only thing that prevents me to say he gets an “A” or awesome game is the passing yardages in 2nd half wasn’t as big in the first half. I am not big on QB who throws 400 yards, yeah it’s nice but as long as he doesn’t turn the ball over and moves the chain to give us opportunities, I am happy.
Sheesh, are you ok?, seriously? One reason I am not in this often because of personal attack and hope that you can learn from this, chill out, and have a healthy debate. Else if you wants to prove you got it right and belittle others, perhaps you should focus solely on Fantasy League and prove to the world you’re the best. Good luck.
Here is my take. I'm happy to see some improvement from Zach. However, I cant handle the excuses. Suddenly he had WRs who barely belong in the NFL? Even though Cole is a well established slot/#2 in the league, and we have a resign Berrios, team MVP thread. So we didn't have the Bengals WRs but clearly we had pro WRs. Can we quit with the excuses that he was with practice squad guys. Even Jeff Smith is in his third season. I cant account for Mims and if you dont like our WR roster than take it to JD. All this nonsense about too many dropped balls. While drops suck, we drop about as many as any other team. There is no special "extra Wilson drops" that are holding him back. Also, sometime drops are partially on the QB with off target throws or throwing short passes to hard. Our drops are in line with the league average so, like most other NFL QBs, Wilson is going to have to overcome them. More importantly - Wilson has had INTs dropped in each of the last three games. It comes around and goes around. I don't mean to disrespect the sunnysiders, because I was one until these last two seasons. But you cant accuse TGG of being reactionary while stating you believe Zach is our FQB for the next 10 years after one good game. Is that any more logical then stating he's a bust after one bad game? Ahem - remember Mike White? Most weeks we're all hypocrits around here. There is also something that needs to be recognized about the TB game. They didn't take us seriously, played flat for most of the game, and we almost trapped them. Or do you think that we could run on their great run defense - while they couldn't run against our terrible run defense, and it was just a sudden massive improvement? TB took us lightly, playing in a place they always struggle, and barely snuck past us with a win. We had success everywhere because of it - including QB. If we played them again next week in Tampa they'd shallack us and Zach would probably be limping off with an injured leg and 1 TD vs 3 INTs. Lets not over rate what happened on Sunday. Duplicating results is the scientific measure of truth. Until we can be consistent I don't know where we are at QB, or as a team. Whats left is the Parcels statement, "we are what our record is". Personally, 4-12 is not fun for me.
Mims can be considered an NFL receiver. He plays in the NFL, right? Therefore he is an NFL receiver. I don't think anyone said Wilson had no WR's on the team. But he hasn't had what you would consider your typical #1 and #2 type WR's the last bunch of games. What team would ever, by choice, sign up for Berrios and Cole Jr. as their 2 starting receivers? I love Berrios but I don't want him as the #1 or #2. And I'll be the first to admit that I'm not overly familiar with Cole from his past seasons but this guy is a #3 at best. And Jeff Smith? Really? Obviously he has enough talent to play on the league but him being one of your top 3 receivers is not a good thing. I won't use the drops as an excuse. Every team has them. And I definitely won't declare Wilson is our FQB. That's just nuts. But I will say that he looks like he can play QB in this league (it was declared he couldn't earlier in the season) and that he has definitely improved (it was argued that he looks the same as game 1.) I have as much optimism as I did after Sam's first year. I honestly didn't throw in the towel on Darnold until the Indy game last year. So I'm certainly not ready to throw in the towel on Wilson after 12 games. Lastly I don't buy your opinion on the TB game. I don't think TB thought they could just step on the field and win. Ariens doesn't coach that way and Brady definitely doesn't have that mindset. If he could have dropped 60 on us he would have.
Cole was the 4th WR on the depth chart in Jacksonville, and they replaced him to improve their roster. Jacksonville did this. The Jets are 6th in dropped passes. What makes sport great is the worst can beat the best any day.. sometimes the best plays terrible and the worst play their best at the same exact time. Crazy right? Who knew all these outcomes weren't pre determined. They don't measure int drops. I've been waiting for someone to post that because A. It's low hanging fruit, B. Means nothing and C. Stunningly stupid. Bravo Youre like a bizzaro apologist, but using the power of false claims that are easily refutable in a 30 second Google search. They just want to hope their team won't suck anymore. What's your drive to write multiple paragraphs of easily refutable negativity?
He was second in yards, catches and tied for the team lead in touchdowns with the Jags last year. So he’s definitely a viable NFL receiver even if it was on a bad team.
He still started out 4th on the depth chart and only started 5 games. I don't really care enough about the debate to really dig deep and find out why he got more snaps.. injuries perhaps He's definitely not a 2, or a high level 3
