why? the pocket was clean at that point. imagine him throwing it away with a clean pocket? you have to trust the protection. it wasn't like an unblocked blitzer was coming right at him
Trust the protection? Because it had done so well for him all night? And as you said yourself, a half second later he was on the ground. Based on that picture, he also has the whole right side to try and run.
the Chargers defense that befuddled Zach Wilson & Hackett Jr gave up over 500 yards of offense yesterday
you can't expect your lineman to get ran by that quickly every play. thats what leads to bailing early and "seeing ghosts"
and the same team that let miami score 70 held mahomes to 9 points. these cherry picked examples don't do anything to serve a purpose. every game is different.
I can throw stupid scenarios at you for an hour, but it's much easier to just say that the kid needs an internal clock - one, two - nobody open then run or get rid of the ball so you don't get sacked.
he did a pretty good job at that yesterday overall. the week before he seemed off and didn't. the week prior he did pretty good at it. it's zach. he's a back-up/ low tier starter at best. he's inconstant. we know what he is. I can't understand why so many people get mad at a "duck being a duck" he can't magically get better and right now he's the option that "sucks less"
He was definitely much better at it yesterday, but at his best he still only doing things most quarterbacks to do all the time. Also, a duck is a duck isn't a valid reason to defend him and it's certainly not a valid reason to keep him in there. If he's a duck, and a duck can't quarterback an NFL team, then the duck shouldn't be on the field.
it's not most QBs. did you see how bad AOC was yesterday? have you seen some of the starters? did you watch the germany game? how about the giants game? did you watch lawerence look awful against that SF pressure? there are probably like 10 QBs that look consistently good game in and game out in the NFL currently. mahomes, jackson, burrow (even though he looked bad the 1st month think it was his injury, he's been great since), stroud, goff, tua, maybe allen, and dak too. even though allen had some stinkers and dak got rolled by the niners. the talent at QB in the NFL right now is pretty bad
Yet none of those quarterbacks have put up zero touchdowns in the last five games. I like how you take Zach's best moments and put them up against other quarterbacks worst moments. Fact of the matter is, he is average in his best moments, and average is even a stretch. When he's not terrible, the team competes but needs help from the defense. When he's far enough below average, they have no chance. I know i know, you've admitted he's not a good quarterback.
I look at the whole picture, others put zachs lowlights against stats and highlights. the raiders took AOC out of the game after the INT. he didn't really throw anything that wasn't a quick predetermined throw around the LOS after that outside of the TD (which was a great throw). zach had some misfires for sure, and he started down the WR on the INT. he made his mistakes. he also had some nice plays ruined by penalties and drops. His throw to GW on the sideline was great but GW dropped it bounced right off his arm. GW also dropped a dime on a slant that would have been a big play and slapped himself in the head after because he knew it. He threw a good deep ball to lazard that lazard just kinda quit on (lazard did the same on the GW throw but the throw was too bad and way OOB) the only one who's been reliable catching the ball for us has been conklin and that is an issue. it's why mahomes "stat wise" is having such a down year. he has nobody reliable to throw to. he's on pace for his worst season stat wise but he's playing great. just as good as ever. the o-line injuries and CD retiring really killed the offense. compile that with a backup QB and this is what you get. hackett and saleh aren't helping either. saleh's "race for 20" comment just confirmed what I've been thnking and that is he is holding back the offense to keep games close and prevent big mistakes
You're continuing to defend him and give excuses. Some are valid, some of that. Yes, they were drops, yes he made some good throws, but at the end of the day, he's late on a lot of them which is why his receivers are being destroyed as they catch the ball. The throw to Lazard was not a good throw. He threw off balance, sailed it way high, and yes Lazard gave up, but he probably doesn't get that ball anyway. I'm not here to argue over individual plays or throws, overall he's a bad quarterback, we agree on that, but you seem to want to push the fact that he's bad for other reasons other than just being bad. He is just not good.
The issue is people think anyone who doesn't shit on him is "riding his nuts and defending him" thats not the case. I'm just being reasonable. zach is not good. we all know that. thats why we traded for rodgers and made him the backup. So i'm trying to look at it from a fair point of who cares what his name or history is but he's a backup who came in due to injury and just grade his performance in a bubble. and yes he wasn't good, but he's our best option and not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. the whole offense is inept and there are issues everywhere. to blame 1 person doesn't make sense. unless we subbed him out for mahomes it won't fix shit. the idea is to fix the offense with what we have and simian or boyle arne't doing that. it'll only be worse. it really starts with coaching and scheme. we have too many bonehead penalties at bad times. and it's not 1 player, it's a few taking turns. MC, uzo, lazard, GW, ruckert, becton, have all had shit penalties at bad times. the o-line has seen too many injuries and we can't run block for shit. people are too enamored with the YPC which looks good on paper but in reality is skewed by breece's homerun balls. most of our run plays the RBs are getting 0-2 yards. it's leaving us in 3rd and long. too many of our passes are in obvious pass situations. nothing comes easy because of that. we have no reliable WR outside of GW and even GW has not been up to his standards the past 2 weeks. Conklin has been our only consistent player on offense really. breece and GW are the only playmakers we have and teams are taking them out of the game best they can and nobody else is stepping up. saleh and hackett need to right the ship and take some chances. we are playing too scared. it's the old "play not to lose" which never works over time. I mean look at pitt. they suck yet they are 6-3. their QB has been worse then ours. their offensive talent isn't much better overall if any then ours. they do at least have a good WR2 in pickens but their RBs aren't as good as hall. their o-line is trash. they've been out gained in yards every game. they have a negative 30 point differential on the season. yet are on pace to make the playoffs again. mostly because tomlin is a great coach. they've been chanting to fire their OC for weeks so much so it spilled over to penguins games but the reality is they are finding ways to win. thats what good teams do. we just aren't a good team. we are just a good defense with holes everywhere else. the issue runs way deeper then zach. thats my only point
I'm going to point out that Tomlin benched Pickett for a time and would never put up with Uzomah type crap--Tomlin makes personnel decisions the best he can. Saleh runs the same guys out there every week regardless of effect on the team including ZW and Uzomah--We have a management problem that is far greater than a team personnel problem. A coach like BB--you may not have seen Clemons for 2 games after that jump offsides--good HC make switches--WTF we roll the same shit out there every week is beyond me
I do think coaching is an issue for sure and a big difference but tomlin hasn't benched pickett this year. pickett got injured which is why trubisky got to play a little. there was 1 game in a 6-30 loss he pulled picket at the end but thats not a benching it's more protecting the starter in a blowout. tomlin has defended pickett all year
lol. still tomlin is a great coach and has been a long time so he gets the benefit of the doubt. he also had a HOF QB most of his career he inherited who had already won a SB. he took over a good team. the steelers as a whole are just a good franchise. they believe in consistency at the top. they've only had 3 head coaches since 1969. thats almost 55 years. we've had 3 head coaches since 2015. it all starts from the top.
Wilson is the starting quarterback and has been since the first two minutes of the season passed. Stop calling him the backup. If he is not capable of being the starter he should have been number two beginning in week two at the latest.
it doesn't work like that lol. he was demoted from starter to backup based on his 1st 2 years. he is a backup who is pushed into a starting role due to injury. just like Mitchel, newman, tippman, etc.
