A little comparison might not make you feel better but know it can be worse. Top 10 playoff droughts New Orleans Saints 20 1967 1987 Philadelphia Eagles 17 1961 1978 Cleveland Browns 17 2003 2020 Buffalo Bills 17 2000 2017 New York Giants 17 1964 1981 Arizona Cardinals 15 1983 1998 Kansas City Chiefs 14 1972 1986 St. Louis Cardinals 14 1960 1974 Cincinnati Bengals 14 1991 2005 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14 1983 1997
From memory, they certainly had a lot of #1 picks and multiple 1st rounders to reset their franchise, again kill me if my memory isn't working correctly.
In a 20 year stretch they had 4 overall #1 picks, Jets have had 1 in whole history. There are 10 teams that have had at least 4 overall #1 picks, Colts and Rams each have had 7
Pitt 26 Jets 20 I see the Jets giving up a lot of yards but keeping Pitt out of the endzone for the most part. I have 0 confidence in this coaching staff to create a smart gameplan and I see Zach getting hit and running for his life most of the game.
I thought they tanked and got two 0 for seasons? They selected Garrett and then Baker but also had multiple 1st round picks, sure they had 3 in one season and over the last 8 years an average of 2 1st round picks, it was always going to click at some point. I could check these things but it takes away from the convo lol
To be fair the Jets have had the number one pick twice. They, just traded it once when Orlando Pace was the top pick eventually trading down to take Farrior.
That's why I was - and still am - in favor of a total tear down and remake of the team, especially erasing the whole "Defense wins championships" philosophy that held them back out of the 21st century. And I still believe that Douglas has the right blueprint, but he's made mistakes, and I sure hope one of them wasn't Saleh.
No worries CC...you gotta make changes in this business of wins and losses For example see: The Browns F Kitchens Mike pettine Hugh Jackson; the Giants didn't think twice before moving on from losing managers like Macadoo Spagnola Shurmer and Judge ( that's 4 post Tom C)! We have to find the right replacement asap
I'm still at the " we don't really know who we are yet" stage. It seems like, on paper, we should be better than Pitt. I feel like the Jets have a good chance to win, and a good chance to lose. Its a total Jetsy feeling, but I'm not going to be surprised at the outcome either way. I will be happy if we win because it could indicate we're a talented team that is starting to gel. And if we do win we'll be playing a meaningful game at home next week. Go Jets!
We well may have to move on past Saleh, but I don't think that point has been reached yet. As bad as the Jets have been, they haven't "Browns bad". And the Giants - both fans and owners - have much less patience for losing than their Jets counterparts because they've been successful more recently and more often than the Jets. Most Jets fans were quite happy with the limited success of Rex and the one year run of Fitzmagic, and didn't demand the core changes to the team philosophy that were actually needed. Douglas has been working on doing that, but it's huge effort, and he hasn't made it easier with some of the mistakes he's made, but IDK who the Jets could've hired that would've done any better. As for Saleh, he needs to understand the urgency and the lack of patience of the fans. And while as someone suggested here that he shouldn't give a damn what the fans think, they're the ones who pay the salaries, so yeah, their opinions DO matter. It's okay if you think you have a better way than what the fans are clamoring for, but it had better produce results, and so far, it hasn't. The clock is ticking.
Props to Zach, he looked fucking lost the first half but he pulled it out. MLF and the line did him no favors.
Good Zach: Accurate on intermediate+ throws Spread the ball around Didn't let mistakes get him down Mad the best of our nightmare OL situation Bad Zach: Internal clock needs to speed up Needs to know when to give up on a play Persistent accuracy issues on short throws One of the INTs wasn't his fault (thanks Conklin) but he also had another that should've been an INT but was dropped by the DB.
GW made a great defensive play on that one to save INT. Overall though, Zach looked rusty and this was a rough game for him, no sugar coating, though it wasn't unexpected. He was out 6-7 weeks, and was just beginning to turn the corner before he got hurt. He did have enough moments though, including 2 TDs (passing and receiving), where he he did enough to win, and hopefully rust will come off as time goes along. Numerous drops and no good OTs on the team after Mitchell was injured also didn't help. Let's take the W, and hopefully see improvement for the next one.
I mentioned double digits of wins (in the W -L column) because winning ten or more games in successive years is a measure of success and how a team gets to the playoffs.
