Yeah. The guys in this Zach Wilson Pro Day thread talking down on him yet so highly on Fields. Doesn't make much sense to me. Both are risky. Both have high upside but also the potential to be busts. I can understand someone preferring Fields to Wilson for sure, but not to the point where you would think one is great and one is terrible. One would be a great pick for the Jets. One would be a terrible pick. I just don't see it like that.

Both seem pretty good to me, and I would be happy with whichever one the Jets decide on, which seems like it will be Wilson.

I totally get your perspective and viewpoint, and respect it. I want a more NFL-ready QB because I'm tired of drafting QBs who aren't NFL ready and they never develop. Whether or not a QB will learn, be willing to put in the work necessary, and be able to make the necessary changes is an iffy proposition. Many are not able to make the needed changes. IMO the Jets cannot afford to miss on QB again. They need a QB that they can be very confident in that can play in the NFL and do the things they want in a QB. Fields may have a higher ceiling or he may not. We may assume that his ceiling is higher because he's bigger and more athletic, but he may be limited in processing plays, and in getting the ball out quickly because of his throwing motion. He may be unwilling or unable to change his throwing motion. Wilson at least has shown he can do those things at the collegiate level. He may struggle in the NFL or even not be able to do them, but Fields hasn't even been able to do those things at the collegiate level, and therefore, he's less likely than Wilson to be able to do them at the NFL level.

Depends on how much more. If it's relatively close, and Wilson/Fields become Mahomes/Watson, then you are just 1 for 2 on top 3 guys in this draft. You have a hefty reputation to protect, and that might not do it!

I also feel terrible watching Mahomes and Watson succeed, also wanting Mac to select one of them at the time, but I just don't think this disappointment will be there with Wilson. If anything, I see both Fields and Wilson having good careers, thought it might take some time before we reap the rewards - much like the case with Mahomes (and to some degree with Watson).

You make the rules; I’ll abide by them. Whatever happens, let’s hope we land a good one.

I hear you regarding Mahomes. I feel the same way.

With regards to "What if Fields kicks more ass?" The truth is, he may not have done it here. Every situation is different. With differences in systems, coaching philosophies and personalities, Fields may not have been as good here as somewhere else. The same goes for Wilson. Wilson could be better here than somewhere else. The thing is we can never know that for certain unless a QB is traded, and even then, once they have already succeeded and proven themselves, I don't think I can remember a QB going to another team and playing at a much lower level than he did with his previous team, but it may have happened.

I think there's a good chance that this could be a historic QB draft and that all of Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Lance and Jones all wind up top 15/top 10 QBs in the NFL. I think they're all that talented. The question is whether each of them will be willing to put in the work, get the right coaching they need, have a good team built around them, and then be able to make the necessary changes/improvements.

If Fields goes to SF, the systems will be same so it should be good basis for comparison.

Will son, currently the field is open for all possibilities, at a quick gLance I'd say that staying on the SAMe old path is going to be out but you know some others they like to keep up with the Jones'es a hell of a tRask when you're the Jets but is hard not to think that by MONDay we should get a clearer picture.

Yes, probably about as close as it can be. Still, there will be some differences with different WRs/TEs and coaching personalities, but it should be close enough to make a pretty accurate comparison.

I would take Fields over Wilson even though I think both are very good prospects. I just prefer the pedigree and physical attributes when they’re both essentially a gamble anyway. I’ll take (in my mind) the higher upside guy. I think Wilson is a little more pro ready right now, but Fields has the chance to be the better player down the line.

I also think Trey Lance is up there with them as a prospect even though he’s not talked about as being in the mix. Not big on Mac Jones.

Mahomes, IMO the best of the best, had a 4;80 40 yard dash. Not sure what petty had to do with it. My point is that that measure is absolutely secondary at best not by any stretch one of the top criteria's to judge a future QB. I don't care what offensive system is used you want a mobile QB, no doubt, but you don't want him running very often. Cam Newton with one of the top ten 40 yard dash, is a perfect example of someone that got beat up because of overusing the running. game.[/QUOTE]

Yeah... Fields would be going to a complete team that just needs a QB and Wilson would be going to a team that has started over every 2-4 years for the past decade and has needs or bandaids all over the field.

What if Fields comes here & Wilson goes to SF & is the better player?

Apparently SF is targeting Lance at three. Curious to see what happens if the Jets take someone other than Wilson. Why did they not wait to see Fields pro day before making the trade I wonder.

Exactly the same. Is say the same for Trevor Lawrence.

The 49ers are head and shoulders a better situation for a QB that gets drafted this high vs the 2-14 Jets with new schemes on both sides of the ball. I think if the Jets do draft QB at 2 they need to sit him for a year mainly for his safety. This team is a bad situation for a rookie passer.

IMO, they like atleast 2 of the QB’s other than Lawrence, and wanted to beat the other teams to the punch by making the deal that was on the table with Miami.

I think people are overthinking this a little bit.

Before the draft I want & hoping to get it perfect. After the draft, I settle/accept whatever we get or at least try to.

I heard Kim Jones say this on the FAN. They can have Garoppolo start in year 1 and let Lance take over in 2022 like the Chiefs did with Mahomes.

  19. This is the unspoken sentiment..I just fundamentally disagree. If people wanna argue that QB is the most important player on the field & we’re serious about actually ending a 52 year drought, you cant settle for second best. This is the same logic that had people wanting to sign Kirk Cousins to a fully guaranteed recird setting deal..

Whats worse? Settling for second best w a premium pick when the offense isnt even properly equipped to give a young QB a fighting chance.
