https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-qb-zach-wilson-to-remain-in-team-s-plans-entering-year-3 Looks like Zach is back for Year 3. That is truly the right move. See how he looks in OTA's and Training Camp. Bring in a veteran to compete with him (or re-sign Mike White if he succeeds these final few weeks). Draft a mid-round QB too. The Jets already paid him his big signing bonus, so he doesn't cost that much against the cap as a #2 QB the next couple years.
I don’t think this report has any concrete or earth shattering news and is pure speculation based on what most of us think, it just does not make financial sense to lest him go. The big problem I have is that I do not think Zach is even backup material for the NFL, as evidenced that the team cannot even dress him in that role when they are fighting for their playoff lives.
This is a no-brainer... IF they either bring in a new OC, a new QB coach, or both. If they stay status quo, keeping him on the roster is just a waste of space. They obviously haven't a clue how to develop an NFL QB, starting with designing an offense around his talent, which they did for Strev, but not Zach.
The FO is clinging to the hope that at some point ZWilson will have an epiphany and suddenly morph into Drew Brees II. The embarassment is just too much to bear admitting they messed up the 2nd overall pick.
The backup is usually the slow steady guy that you can rely on to come in and not totally screw the pooch. ZW is a pooch-screwer.
No idea if this report is true, but if it is, I'm going back to my original belief heading into this season that JD is an idiot who got lucky with the Sauce and Garrett Wilson picks.
Lets say his OL reconstruction project has yielded very sketchy results. JD could use a win at QB and OL. The honeymoon won't last forever.
Both had significantly better value at the time of those trades. Zach isn't worth a bag of dog poop. I'm hoping someone takes a flier on Zach for a 5th rounder.
I think it's the old Jedi mind trick. They'll hope he has a great training camp then try and move him. Although if Zach does get it together it would be tempting to keep him.
Today Mike LaFleur basically admitted the Jets have handled Zach's career wrong from Day 1 and he should not have just been handed the starting job as a rookie, as we all knew back then. Here is my question: Is it possible a new staff can fix Zach and get him back on track? I think the answer is yes, but it will take time. Possibly even sitting 2023. He has enough talent to get it right. I hope he does.
he might, but who knows if he can reach it or if a new staff would want to bet their futures on him coming good. With the way the fans have just turned on him here, I don't think it's realistic for this to be with the Jets. Also, how did JD go into that season with a Flacco who looked terrible as the only other QB option for us? that seems mad looking back on it
