Nania's week 7 film review is out? I do not see it on X Factor yet. I know Nania was really harsh on Zach's performance in his Sunday podcast but I am looking forward to seeing the all 22 review. Could you post the link for some reason I do not see it.

    Edit:

    Did you mean Pavia's?

I can't argue with this take, but I will point out that he still has 10 games to continue to improve - he's only played 4 this year. And it's not just Zach that needs to improve a lot, the OL does, the receivers do, MLF and the QB Coach all do.

The fact is that Wilson has improved a lot since the beginning of last year. This shows several things:

    1. He knows he needs to improve and is working at doing that.
    2. He's eliminated some of the big mistakes he used to have.
    3. If he's fixed these things there is no reason to believe that he can't fix the other things over time.

But let's say they decide Zach isn't the answer, then who is? Will they be in position to draft someone better? Crap shoot at best. Will they be able to sign some vet who is one hard hit away from a season/career ending injury? Or do you think they should sign some mediocre JAG?

Or maybe sticking with a young QB and continuing to work with him to make him the QB you need him to be is really the better option.

Or maybe he doesn't have to prove 100% in this one game that he's the guy. Maybe he'll be given a few more games by the CS to prove that.

Most young QB's that are going to be good have one or two things to work on to improve their game. ZW basically has his entire game to work on.

Most young QB's that are going to be great don't have much to work on. That's why they're going to be great.

The argument for letting ZW come along at his own pace is the Terry Bradshaw argument. However the Jets don't have ZW's rights in perpetuity. We don't have 4 years for the guy to get his feet on the ground and another 2 for everything to gel.

We've had QB's on that timeline in the past also. Richard Todd finally got good enough to not be the problem. However he never got good enough to be the answer because the late 70's/early 80's Jets weren't the Steelers of the early to mid 70's.

It takes an extremely good team to raise a gnarly young QB. If you're not quite there, well he's never going to get you there.

Sure, it doesn’t have to be this Sunday but at some point he will have to elevate his game if we want to win a SB.

Going out and throwing for 250+, while completing 60%+ of his passes, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs against a solid but not great Pats D would do a lot to prove he is the guy that can take us there. Still wouldn’t definitively mean he is or isn’t the guy because it’s still just 1 game but it would be a good start.

I believe in Zach and barring some catastrophic collapse down the stretch, he’s gonna be the starter for the next year or two, but at some point belief has to turn into reality on the field.

There aren't cut and dry answers right now and the truth will be revealed in time. The only 2 clear cut results are:

    1. Most top 10 NFL QBs show you they are elite in their first year starting. Burrow, Mahomes, Herbert, etc. By week 8 you can see their professional skills are above average. This is kind what you hope a 2nd overall pick will do. It didn't happen.

    2. Most journeymen or worse QBs show you that they are not the answer after their first season. Zach hasn't really done that either. He has some things to build on. There are QBs like Allen, Geno, and Hurts who took a few years to get top 10.

These are the early results, the two known outcomes. There are a lot of levels in between where he could end up as well. Its not irrational to be disappointed he's not in category 1, or to believe he fits into category 2. And here's where we are. The rest of the story is unknown.

Someone made a point earlier about Zach improving in Denver vs his last years outing. That is a good point. Zach may have been overly cautious in Denver because he wanted to improve on what happened there last season. Its not unreasonable and could explain his timid play. But he also had a terrible game against NE last year. How will he react this Sunday? Time will tell and it will be a good measure. But it wont be the final measure.

I've stated earlier that IMO Zach's main problem is he doesn't throw all types of passes. (yes I hear certain posters teeth grinding). He only throws fastballs down field. That is a helpful talent but there are just too many times a QB needs to put air under the ball, and add touch to place it over the defenders. His skill here is lacking and it can take away part of the field. Its something that should be worked on in practice every day. It's also a skill that relies on chemistry with each receiver. Sometimes it feels like the softer Zach throws the less accurate he is. That is alarming and needs work.

Zach is going to be what he's going to be regardless of what is posted on TGG. Suggesting long time posters aren't Jet fans, or worse, are Pats fans, is insulting and not a debate tactic. Lets not start treating each other like enemies. Their just opinions on a fan site. Deep down we're all family in green. A disfunctionel traumatized family, but still family.

The bold is absolutely true. But again, it doesn't have to happen this week. Would I like it if he threw for 300+ and a couple of TDs and stomped the Pats? You bet! But if he doesn't I'm not going say "This proves he's not the guy". And even if he throws for 300+ and a couple of TDs it won't mean he doesn't have things to work on and improve. He's a work in progress, having just played his 17th pro game, most of which were with him playing with marginal talent around him at best, and all of them with a young OC who is also learning. This isn't all on Zach. You take him out of the equation, there's still a lot of holes on this team, and you'd be hard pressed to find another QB - one that the Jets could sign - who would've won 4 games in the conditions they played in.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the notion that wanting better QB play (you know, the thing that is the #1 most important thing for any team to compete for a SB) makes someone "not a fan."

Being a fan means being honest about the team's shortcomings so that the team can continuously improve and win more games/go further in the playoffs. It doesn't mean blindly supporting everything everyone on the team does.

I think some people are being ridiculous right now. The Jets were (4-13) in 2021. (Zach won 3 games) Zach is already (4-0) in 2022. Just stop right there. Progress has been made by the franchise and Zach himself. Let him continue to grow. Very simple.

Now Zach himself led the Jets back in Pittsburgh. Played pretty well against Miami. Solid 2nd half against Green Bay where he did not have to do much, and then seemed to struggle in Denver without Elijah Moore and Corey Davis most of the game. That is the sample size right now. Literally not much to complain about.

Zach has not been perfect. He goes cold in stretches. He misses some easy throws sometimes. All fixable.

He also eludes pressure about as well as any QB in the NFL. Has a rocket arm. Seems to be continuing to grow as a leader. And has continued to show the bright lights of New York are not too big for him. Give him time.

How many times are people going to parrot this "escapability" thing despite it not being true?

Zach is 24th in the league in sacks taken per dropback. He has an average of 2.5 seconds until initial pressure on dropbacks, which is league average.

The irony that these are the same people saying everyone else is being unreasonable...

The thing is though they won in spite of him TDK.

Your argument would make no sense if it was placed on any other position on the field. "The Jets are 4-0 with CJ Uzomah. What great progress he has made."

This is about as well and succinct an assessment as I've seen.

Look at others guys in his draft class.

Going into Monday night the Bears fans and coaches were demanding that Fields show improvement or be benched. Fields responded in the media and then in game.

Mac Jones set a record for completion percentage, led his team to 10 wins and the playoffs. And after 3 and 1/4 starts half the stadium was chanting for his backup - and he was benched.

Both of these guys have much less help than Zach does. On both of these teams Zach would have already been benched. Zach has won 4 games largely due to the talent around him. We're not being too hard on him. Zach is having a cushy career next to them. Fields and Jones are having to earn their job with blood, sweat, and results. The excuses and kid gloves are off in Chicago and NE.

That's not true though. The only example that can be used in that argument is Denver, but that was the game plan. I get fans wanting him to play great, but that was a tough game. The question was who would make the big mistake first, and it ended up being the Broncos. Bold strategy by Saleh, but it worked.

Zach has made progress. And will continue to. I get fans expecting him to be lighting it up more. I know I did too but I am not worried. The Jets offensive identity has been running the ball. Now with Hall out, that shifts more on Zach's shoulders. We will see how he responds.
