It's just a trap. We have a young QB who was over drafted (again). They're not living up to expectations (again). There's no visible reason to believe this will change (again.) And yet we're all sitting here waiting for 'potential' to become more important than 'performance' (again). Stuff like this doesn't happen over and over again by accident. It happens because the team plan is fundamentally broken. Draft a young QB high. Make sure he is personable and marketable. Throw him out on the field right away as a rookie. Market him as the next big thing. Watch him fail until there's no doubt (which takes several seasons). Rinse and repeat.
This is literally every teams plan until they find the right QB. Maybe with the exception that a handfull get a red shirt year.
Your whole personable and marketable thing is ridiculous. NFL teams don’t draft players based on marketability. They’re worth over a billion dollars if they trotted a bunch of Iguanas out there. They obviously thought/think he is the next big thing because playoffs = more TV time, more jerseys, more everything.
In second year, Tua had a 67.8% completion percentage, 6.8 Y/A, 16 TDs, 10 INTs, and a passer rating of 90.1. Hurts had a 61.3% completion percentage, 7.3 Y/A, 16 TDs, 9 INTs, and a passer rating of 87.2. So far, Zach has a 57.5% completion percentage, 7.2 Y/A, 4 TDs, 5 INTs, and a passer rating of 75.5. So yes, Tua and Hurts performed at an unspectacular level. But Zach is gonna have to play like Mahomes in the second half in order for his overall second year to look similar to those guys.
Every situation is different. Zach has played 6 games this season. He is (5-1). The Steelers game he led a comeback victory. The Dolphins game he managed well and the Jets won by 23, the Packers and Broncos games were mostly defensive and led by the running game, the Patriots game looked pretty good for almost the entire first half, but the last minute was a meltdown. And the 2nd half was a train wreck. Then he bounced back for another solid outing against a great Bills team. That is what we have on Zach Wilson right now. Not quite enough to call him a franchise QB, although is is clearly making progress, but not even close to enough terrible play to label him a bust or to suggest to move on like some fans have ridiculously said on here. Yesterday Zach said he doesn't listen to anyone outside of the building. I am glad he has that mindset.
Not at all like Mahomes. If he plays like he did in Buffalo most of the time the rest of the way, he will be around that same 85+ passer rating and similar TD/INT ratio. I expect him to get there in the remaining games of the season.
It's no wonder he has 7 career INTs out of I think 15 against 2 full games with Pats. We we will know a lot more about Zach tomorrow. If he can put together a solid game, not only will he start stringing good games together, but also prove that he can learn from his mistakes, and handle the pressure against the team that killed him every time before. A good game here will go a long way towards his development, and I can't wait for him to put it togother tomorrow en route to a much needed victory over NE.
i hope he can…we can not have a repeat of three weeks ago….we need to win this game not only for standings and playoff push but just as importantly to slay that fucking NE demon….
Wilson needs to play within the scheme and not do anything else. Run the dam ball, throw quick passes and let the D beat them...
Throw it 71 times and break Drew Bledsoe's record exactly where it was set. Well not in the exact same stadium but you get the point. Let's take the diapers off Zach and sling it baby.
I should just wait and see how many more of these posts follow suit but I won't. I apologize, I thought the post in itself screamed sarcasm. Just the pure fact of throwing the ball 71 times alone is just utter madness and was the dead giveaway. At least I thought it was.
Same couple of nay sayers jumping at any opportunity, irrespective of the subject to throw shit up against Zach. He had a bad game against the Pats and that is all they care to remember or talk about. Surprise , surprise. Damned the rest. Waste of time. Jet fans care about one thing only. For the Jets to keep on winning. The rest is noise.
71 times would be 6 picks, maybe 7. But in truth he'd never get 71 throws in because 3 and out would happen 5 times and he'd only have 5 other drives tops to get the rest of the throws in. Also he'd probably be sacked a half dozen times by half time and likely injured at some point in the process.
Its like even though the Pats era has been over. It still exists for us. Lets end this thing today and not go into another offseason with it. Go Jets!
Just like he did against the Bills, the passes should constitute 3 steps and fire. All timing passes and run the ball heavily. Heavily!! If the pass isn’t there immediately then get rid of it.
Excellent freaking point! Pats era has been over with for sometime, and we gave that last game away. I wanna see Belichick slam his headphones in anger at some point in the 4th quarter today.
That's great... In your darkside fantasy... Zach Wilson not only really sucks but gets himself injured. Do we at least cover the point spread?
