If the team wasn't atrocious while he was struggling behind an offensive line that's mostly been bad (albeit better than the first three weeks), I'd imagine he'd be playing on it. He moves around but it's not like he runs the ball. Quarterbacks play on that stuff. It's comparable to when the Jets shut Darnold down for a couple weeks on some minor injury his rookie year, to give him a breather.
It was a very clean game by Zach. The only pass off the mark was the PI which resulted in a 46 yard gain. 4 incompletions 3 of which he threw away and one Moore fell down. 3 splash plays the Griffin, Johnson and PI plays. In 3 drives one TD and one missed FG. A very strong game by Zach. But as the video suggests there are issues to clean up in footwork, trusting his reads and getting the ball out faster. One thing to note here is Zach did not get much help. To score he had to make a few very exceptional plays that was all him to extend drives. Which IMO has been his biggest issue. He tries to do too much because more often than not he needs to make the exceptional play to extend drives. Trying to do too much is the cause of most of his mistakes. That being said this game was a nice balance and showed something Zach had talked about before the game about taking risks at the appropriate time. He said 3 of the INTs against NE were good decisions but not neccessarily good decisions when it is a close game. He has been struggling with when it is appropriate to take chances and when he should not be a gunslinger. I am not a fan of the gunslinger mode and hope he learns to take less chances and take easy yards when they are there. But, I think that will be a process for him as that gunslinger mode seems to be a part of his nature. But, in this game he seemed to strike a better balance. The nice thing about him playing efficient boring football is it creates a rhythm and confidence making it easier for him to make off schedule plays like he did to Griffin and Johnson.
