I'm watching the BYU-Coastal Carolina game and am not only totally unimpressed by Zack Wilson, I think he's stupid. His coaches have told him to protect his body, and he doesn't. He's wild and reckless. He runs too much and then doesn't slide. Once I saw him throw his shoulder into a defender, and on another run in the 4th Qtr. he tried to hurdle a tall CB, went airborne and fell on his throwing shoulder. The announcer said that he has already hurt his throwing shoulder once. On another play that was a handoff, Wilson ran over and shoved one of the defenders. He looks like a meathead to me who's going to wind up ending his career through injury.

He also does this weird spin move after some snaps, where he turns his back on the LOS and then runs to his left. He can't see his receivers, and can't see rushers, and it bit him several times.

He has been inaccurate with many of his passes. It's only one game, but if I had to choose off of this game, I wouldn't draft him.

Lawrence is strong as an ox though dude. I don't really care what he's listed at. Linebackers absorb his hits. Not the other way around.

    I understand your point though.

I hope everyone watched the almighty Zach Wilson tonight and realized he has nothing on Fields or Lawrence.

Might as well throw this highlight here:

For perspective, top draft prospect Dylan Moses plays LB for Bama at 6'3" 232.

Check out this raw athleticism from Justin Fields today at 6'3" 228:

He honestly reminds me of Roethlisberger that can run because he holds on to the ball forever and can throw defensive ends off of him (talking prime Roethlisberger not this quick passing BR).

Ben was somewhat of a "scrambler" earlier on in his career. Less in the traditional sense and what a scrambler is now. But moreso in the fact that he moved around the pocket a bit. I see a lot of that in Fields - only he has absolute wheels.

Lawrence just got absolutely smoked in the pocket and delivered a bread basket 40 yarder that was dropped and called back for OPI. Will never see that show up on the highlights of this poor game he's playing though.

EDIT: he righted the wrong and delivered a beauty for the TD on the next play.

Don't have the OPI, but here's the TD.

Pretty much the same exact play but add a drop to that highlight and Lawrence getting destroyed in the ribs with an equally great throw.

That was a block in the back. The TD should have been called back if it wasn't. He'd never get away with that in the NFL, either. Some LB or DL would clock him.

Time to bump this since Wilson is a real possibility for us at 2.

I don't think it is. I will say one good thing about him - he seems to use his eyes well. A drawback to that is when he uses his eyes, the read he comes back to is predetermined. But he's very aware of how to manipulate safeties.

He reminds me a lot of Baker Mayfield. Similar size, a little bit more athletic. He has a better throwing motion than Baker does with his wind up, but Baker has a bigger arm over the middle for sure.

    Similar moxie too.

Wilson’s style of play is Mahomes like, but his arm is very average imo. Baker takes some flack, but absolutely has one of the strongest arms in the NFL. Wilson is not near these guys as far as arm talent and for that I am out with him as a top 10 pick.

I agree to an extent. I don't think Wilson is fast enough or savvy enough to move like Mahomes based on the fact that he simply hasn't had to do it in college that much this year.

Mayfield does have a big arm but he has that elongated motion to fling the ball so it kind of hurts him because it takes longer.

I think Wilson will be shorter than his listed 6'3" too. He looks shorter more like 6'1". I could be wrong on the Baker comparison but that's who I see. I'm going to watch him again tonight.

I think his speed is a bit overrated because he's a short strider. It reminds me a bit of how Johnny Manziel was able to elude every rusher in college football but was a statue in the NFL because of the speed difference of defenders.

That should have been a block in the back. He ran past the defender, but then slowed down to get the block and when he hit the defender, he hit him in the back of his left shoulder. The ref was right there and ignored it. A BS no call.

I was thinking about this today; a lot of people seem to have written Lance off because he's played one game in a year and didn't play well

  16. His physical tools are outstanding as are his mechanics. That program brings in good people & they develop them like no other at that level.

He could even play sooner than expected bc of those great mechanics. Its shaking off the rust & how long wil it take to expand his game?

I’ve seen a lot of people in here questioning Wilson’s arm strength and I’m honestly not sure I’m watching the same games.

This player has a bazooka and an extremely fast release on top of it.

Wilson has an insanely quick release, strong arm and legitimate Mahomes-like improvisational ability. He also processes info quickly and has great touch and feel for the proper trajectory to use on throws on a case by case basis. He’s accurate as hell and athletic both in escaping the pocket and as a scrambler.

Competition is a huge red flag, as are his injury history and the fact that he only has 1 impressive year of tape. But Trevor Lawrence was the only sure thing in this draft, and as far as the remaining gambles go, Wilson might be my favorite bet.

He’s insanely fun to watch. And oh yea, his deep ball accuracy is borderline nonsense.

Wilson looked nice on that first drive.

The first pass he made, a 10 yard out showed plenty of zip. The dropped TD was nice and he responded to the drop with a 15 yard TD run
