I think the Jets have 2 options with Zach Wilson:

    1. Keep him on the roster as a project and see what you can do with him this off-season and Training Camp. Sign a veteran and draft a QB to compete with him.

    2. Flat out release him. Not sure how any team can justify giving up draft picks for Zach right now. Too much negativity and red flags surrounding him.

I think Option 1 is the way to go and likely what Joe Douglas will do. The only reason not to would be that he is a cancer in the locker room, which I don't know if he is or not. I doubt it.

There is much made of Zach's personality. I don't think he will be a distraction. Remember this summer when he was traveling around the country to throw with each receiver. Everyone loved his attitude. Then MILFinator shirts everyone wore. No one had an issue with Zach. The issues started when Zach couldn't pull his weight. The team outgrew him. This was no longer a rebuilding learn as you go project. This was a play-off project, with Zach literally quarterbacking it, and he was not ready to do it. And what happens on any team project when someone who has a critical role cannot carry weight? People resent that person. GW was alluding to the fact Zach was outplayed in practice and still got a starting spot. That cannot happen any more.

If Zach next year is a developmental guy, maybe #3 like James Morgan was, and working his way up, no one will have a problem. If he earns his reps, he will get promoted like Mike White was this year. If not, then he won't. He is still young, and having a 24 year old at the end of the bench to develop is not a terrible thing. He just lost his draft status.

It doesnt work that way. The head coach (especially if its still Saleh) will be asked about Zach Wilson every day. The offensive coordinator, the wide recievers, the starting QB, and Wilson himself will be asked every day. Its old already

Then you'd have to consider if Wilson himself is mature enough to handle the James Morgan role. I dont think he is.

I dont think he will be back and its probably good for all involved. I dont care about the cap hit, sometimes its worth it to move on

Zach story will die down if we have a competent QB at the helm, which JD and Saleh have to make sure we have or they are gone anyway. If the QB sucks, yes people will ask, but then we have bigger problems, and they would have asked about any other QB anyway. If Zach is quietly working his way up and is improving, does well in practice, has a decent preseason, why not keep him as #3? If he sucks next year too to even be bad against scrubs in preseason, then yeah, take a CAP hit. Otherwise, it is more CAP hit to waive him than to keep him, might as well see if he improved in the training camp.

I think Jets would be lucky to get a 4th for ZW right now and Tunsil's value is a lot better than a 4th.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think he's such damaged goods that the Jets wouldn't be able to trade ZW even if they wanted.
Texans probably think they already have a better young QB than ZW-- and they're probably right.

So they just have to figure out the problem that has plagued this organization for 50 years and then Zach Wilson won't be an issue.

I wish teams in general thought like that, there would probably be a lot more competent quarterbacking in the NFL.

First round quarterbacks who are unsuccessful in their first few years are usually treated like hot potato.

For good reason most of the men who took them can realize it was a mistake within the first two years. See Josh Rosen and Cardinals said nope this was a bad move let’s wash our hands as soon as possible
