Oh so I mentioned this in the NFL other games thread, the people who don't like hot dogging, turn away when watching Redskins/Broncos highlights. Rodgers-Cromartie picked off Kirk Cousins and let's say he started his high stepping really far away, Deion Sanders far away and then some.

How about Golden Tate's TD catch and run on MNF? A drastic rule change would be to throw a flag and put the ball where he started taunting. Take away the TD and penalize the play from the point of the infraction. I suspect coaches would put an end to that kind of hot- dogging immediately.

I think that is taking it too far. You shouldn't take away points for something that isn't really football related, as in it isn't a competitive advantage or cheating.

If anything needs to be done it should be hitting them in the pockets. If they want to bring attention to themselves in that manner then discourage it by big fines for repeat offenders.

In addition a penalty on the kickoff like with TD celebrations can work too. You can't stand on a football in the EZ because you get a 15 yard penalty, but you can grab your crotch while diving in the EZ and wave and point at the player chasing you while going into the EZ with no penalty.

Yeah. Doesn't really make sense lol

I'm kinda torn on this issue. I usually don't have a problem with "hotdogging" unless it is against my team or is a player I don't particularly like. But it is definitely unprofessional. And some of these guys take it too far. I mean high stepping is okay to me but what Golden Tate did last night was taking it too far.

how big are the fines? they are nailing players for leading with the head and it continues. the only way this stop is taking away points

Hot dogging? If that's anything close to the urban dictionary definition, then I see nothing wrong with it all. Who cares where people do it?

On the real, they should allow more extensive celebrations. Make them put together a short production or scene from Romeo and Juliette. The fans would enjoy it. Taunting is fun. It would have been hilarious if got tackled right after, though, because he almost took his mind off the play.

I dont mind it so much as long as the team is winning, looks selfish if team is losing. I hate coaches that fist pump and act like teenage girls like Pete Carroll at least the player scored the td

I see that as different because that is football related. Those guys are looking to make plays. Hotdogging doesn't help make plays on the football field. I think they would think twice if they got 6 digit fines.

The only way to stop over the top demonstrations is to lose points. That's why I suggested it, tho I know it'll never happen. It's too drastic for the league to do.

I expect somewhere down the road we'll have Rollerball- style armor/uniforms to protect the players. It's either that or go to flag football rules. How else do you stop the injuries caused by bigger stronger faster players hitting opponents only protected by 20th century padding?

I think fines can limit the hotdogging, taking EZ celebrations out with hotdogging would be silly.

Fix the helmet, you lose a weapon. That's the key imo to safening the NFL without changing to flags and two hand touch. Easier said that done

i agree, i posted in the game thread as tate was going in they should take the points off the board.

and to clarify, i don't care if thry go into a peter griffin stlyecelebration .after they score but the in your face taunting as he is going in is classless, unprofessional and immature. ithas no place on the football field. you want to dance or scream or whatever to entertain the fans thats fine but have some class

Agreed, they're 2 different things. Celebrating in the EZ after a TD is valid, tho the orchestrated ones are pretty lame. But "celebrating" a first down or a pass defense or a sack is hotdogging and being in your opponent's face is classless... especially if your team is losing. There's no place for it in what is such a team- dependent game, i.e. if 10 players do everything perfectly but one of them screws up, the play's a failure. Some of these guys need to remember that.

one day a player will get hurt and lose his NFL career when doing a back flip in the end zone. I like when a player acts like he has been in the end zone before.

What I hope for whenever I see some jackass going nuts on a routine play and treating it like he won the Super Bowl all by himself.
