I’m surprised at all the love for McCarthy. I don’t really get it with that guy. How many head coaches have gotten a 3rd shot? And what has he done anywhere that would make him worthy of getting a 3rd shot? All he did was underachieve in Green Bay and Dallas.
He won a Superbowl and his only two losing seasons in Dallas were when Dak got hurt. It's fair to say he underachieved in GB but he was in the playoffs every year until the last two.
The Jets need to get to the point where they put together a couple winning seasons before they worry about a coach that might “underachieve” in the playoffs with a 12-5 roster. We’re basically one of the worst franchises in all of sports. I’d kill to see a 12-5 season sometime in the next couple years.
Same here. Rode the coattails of Aaron Rodgers and then Dak. Underachieved consistently. Why do guys like this keep getting second, third, fourth choices? Give me Flores, Glenn, Tomlin, or pretty much anyone else in this thread.
With Rodgers, I agree, though I didn't see MLF going to SB with Rodgers in his prime, he did improve the record drastically over Mike. With Cowboys though I don't think he underachieved. Whenever Dak was healthy he won 12 games in a regular season. And Dak is not an elite QB. In play-offs only one win and 3 appearances, but I would say this is not an underachievement when you don't have a superstar QB, which Dak is not. More or less within the margin of error of where you should be with the rosters he had, maybe even better, depending on how you view Dak.
i have been hearing aaron glenns name come up. and i dont know why but i feel like that wont go well. im still hoping for flores, i dont care if his defense is getting carved up tonight. i want the guy who will make the best head coach. marcus freeman came into notre dame and people were a little iffy about him. some coaches left, some were asked to leave and its beginning to look like he was more worried about culture than a scheme or coach. i want the same for the jets a guy worried about making decisions based upon what his beliefs are not a guy looking to make a splash to make headlines. so a guy who can work with a good gm and tell the owner to stfu and go away and let the football people make the football decisions.
He would at least be a guaranteed better head coach than Bowels, Gase, and Saleh so best coach in over 10 years. I don't think the Jets can risk having another failed experiment. I was always critical of McCarthy but he at least is probably a top 10 head coach in the league.
Flores is a guy that went and cried racism suing the league when clearly the Giants followed all protocol and Bellicheck is just an old coot who can’t send a proper text. He alienated his rookie QB when he was a HC, and apparently doesn’t have a great relationship with his former coaches and may have a tough time putting together a solid staff. Why anyone wants him is beyond me.
My two cents. Of all the HC interviews to date, the only two I would consider are Glenn and Spagnuolo, period. Forget the rest. So far no real emphasis on the offensive side of the ball. Not interviewing Monken and Kingsbury is troublesome to me. Many here believe in Flores. I absolutely believe Flores would implode in NY, nor do I believe he has the leadership skills to build a team that plays like a team. After the first year in Miami he gradually lost his locker room with his dictatorial ways, pissing players coaches and owners off along the way. We need to nail down the GM and let him bring some clarity on the path ahead for a HC. Not getting a good vibe.
Yeah…I just don’t get all the love for Flores…if you are going to be a dictatorial dick type guy, you can get away with it if you are Parcells or Belichick…guys with multiple superbowls and proven winners. Flores is a sub-.500 coach who had one winning season in 3 in Miami. I just don’t get it.
It seems downright silly to talk about "getting a 3rd shot" as if his previous 2 jobs were complete busts. We're not talking about a losing head coach that keeps getting fired after short stints. We're talking about a guy that had three 12-5 seasons in a row, a Super Bowl win and a 174-112-2 record. Just because he's had very good QBs (Dak ain't elite) doesn't mean he's not a good coach or that he underachieved. He wins games. Yes, he's got some shortcomings as a head coach, but it raises the floor (as somebody said ealier). Now I don't see him coming to the Jets, regardless, due to what happened last time, but it's not like it would be a huge risk.
Apparently him and Rodgers are on good terms so it is possible. But I would think McCarthy would either go Chicago or Jacksonville depending on which QB he likes more. Its also possible he goes to a team like the Raiders or Saints and Rodgers goes with him (I dont know).....But I would think its most likely he goes to a team with a young qb so he doesnt have to look or find one. Titans or Cleveland also possible if he likes the draft.
They have a worse owner than Woody and their GM traded their 2nd best player. Vrabel is an OUTSTANDING coach. Team played above its talent level according to the folks who followed the team daily.
2. The only reason to care about anyone's feelings is if anyone is planning for Rodgers to be around. Financially, and on the field, the minority view that Rodgers somehow is still the savior of this team needs to be put to bed. He and Adams and Lazard need to load up an Uber and get out of town before another year or two is wasted. That begins the repair of the offense and the salary cap. Thankfully, there seems to be little support inside or outside the Jets organization for the Rodgers experiment to continue
