I found it hard to envision Vrabel here. The Belichick-New England connection I couldn't envision him leading the Jets.
If he's good enough to work for the Steelers he's good enough for me. He did a nice job resurrecting Russel Wilson's career this season. Perhaps he could do the same with Aaron Rodgers.
Exactly. The reality of Rooney rule is that teams must interview minority candidates even they already have someone they really want to hire like Daboll for the Giants and it is pretty much a done deal. Heck, that was the case even when Parcells was hired, when Belichick was hired, when Sean Payton was hired, this is nothing new. So yes, that means some guys will get extra interviews even when the teams intend to hire someone else. I mean this is just a reality, yes you spend some time with the execs, but this is not a terrible thing to get some practice for next time. Overall, the rule does have benefit. Flores seems to be a hard ass to the players, but when he himself thinks he was not treated nicely, he cries like an absolute bitch. Basically he can give it, but cannot take it. Not a HC material, and if Woody has half a brain and does not want to get sued in case he decides to hire someone else, don't even interview this guy.
Jets request interview with Bills OC Joe Brady. Ian Rapoport on X: "Source: The #Jets have requested to interview #Bills OC Joe Brady for their vacant HC job." / X
Glenn was awesome last night. Detroit's defense is depleted. Everyone is hurt. He got Darnold to see ghosts anyway
I watched a Pivot podcast episode w/ AG not too long ago and came away super impressed. Once he decided he wanted to coach, he started at the very bottom & worked his way up. He wanted to make sure that if/when he did get a HC job, he would know what every level did, from scouting, to quality control, to assistant positional coaching, position coach to coordinator. He didn’t want any special treatment. That’s admirable.
I'm starting to reach Gase-era levels of disassociation. Started with the Rodgers hamstring injury, got even worse halfway through this current season and now we're staring down the barrel of a full rebuild with no QB, no GM and a list of head coaches that read like an NFL blacklist. There's no reason to believe an organization that can't navigate any landmines will successfully navigate a head coaching search full of them. Other than that, how was the play Ms. Lincoln?
On the plus side, perhaps, maybe the whole Vrabel to the Pats business isn't a completely done deal yet. PFT - Patriots request permission to interview Lions OC Ben Johnson
Some good GM choices there, including Alec Halaby, whom I mentioned before. This article says they shared play calling with Steve Belichik after Flores left and was a defacto DC. Was it more Steve that was calling plays? Definitely as a DC I want someone who did call plays, while the HC IMO should be a current OC who will call plays on offense, a la McVey, O'Connell, and Shanahan.
Now that would be an absolute fucking disaster if they get Ben. Hopefully he likes Chicago job more if not ours. P.S. It appears Ben is not interested in the Jets. Not unexpected, but still hope he will not end up in the division.
I think there are more good candidates than there are openings in my opinion. Even the Jets can’t F this up.
X - [Adam Schefter] - Jets requested a head coach interview with 49ers QB coach Brian Griese, per sources
From everything that's been reported, there are 7 different ways the Jets can F this up: Vance Joseph Rex Ryan Ron Rivera Bobby Slowik Matt Nagy Brian Griese Arthur Smith Conversely there's only a few ways we can get it right when you consider Vrabel is a Pat and Ben Johnson doesn't want us: Aaron Glenn (homerun, but Saints want him bad) Brian Flores (is he good or is he better than the others?) Joe Brady (homerun, but why would he leave Buffalo?)
just last year Slowik was the hot name. now he's trash? I dont know much about him but seems just as qualified as the others brought up
