Why are we even doing this? He clearly isn't ready to be a head coach. Have some balls, tell him we're moving on, and save everyone the time and energy. Even if it's some meaningless gesture out of politeness it's dumb. Don't string the guy along any longer than needed.
Sounds like the perfect Jets hire to me Of course we will also hire our own GM based on Tanny's recommendation who will disagree with Ben Johnson, and draft players who don't play well in that scheme.
So I guess Mike Vrabel did interview here yesterday. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-interviewing-former-titans-coach-mike-vrabel
C'mon Rex. We need to have a top #5 defense, a bottom #5 offense and a shit QB. It will be just like the, er, last 40 years.
There isn't one. The interview went very well. Vrabel to me is a solid guy, he will definitely make sure players and coaches are held accountable, he will make sure everyone is on time, ready to do, practices are well structured. He will have good preparation for the opponent, correctly assess strength and weaknesses, and I do think the Jets will put their best foot forward every week. I think he will do better than Bob. It is not a bad hire. But again, I have a huge concern about the offense not living up to potential due to lack of creative play design. Looking at his OCs, he initially picked off a talented OC from McVey - MLF. After that he basically promoted the guys internally. Smith was solid, and Downing and Kelly sucked. Where is he going to get an OC from now? He is not getting one from McVey again as MILF is not coming back here. It's just such as long shot he will get someone good. Maybe Daboll if he gets fired? Then again he might not get fired and he does, there may be an opening Buffalo. I don't know guys, I just have huge concerns. It's not the worst hire, but it's not the highest ceiling either. Many people in media say he is the top candidate. That they were shocked when he got fired and even more shocked no one else hired him. But I am not shocked at all, it makes total sense, because these concerns are valid, and they are big. Particularly for a team that does not have an immediate path to a star QB, like let's say Washington or Houston did when they hired defensive guys.
There are so many options I’d be satisfied with that I’m fully expecting us to hire some Saints linebacker coach no one’s ever heard of to truly disappoint this fanbase for another 3+ years.
I know I am gonna catch a rash of shit here: Head Coach/O.C. - Kliff Kingsbury Defensive Coordinator - Rex Ryan Special Teams - Brant Boyer I know someone will say that there is no way Rex would take second fiddle to Kliff. But let's be honest, money will speak volumes. The reason I went with Kliff as head coach is so that no other team can poach one of our coordinators. Rex has so much passion for the Jets that if approached he might take the position
Interesting point about Rex being a DC. But would a HC (whoever that is) want to take a former Jets coach who has direct ties to Woody, etc, to be on the staff? I think Rex is just out, there is no way he would be a HC, and I don't think any HC would want to take him as a DC.
I think Rex would take a DC job in the right circumstance, but the jets ain’t it. He’s not coming back here not a HC, and also money doesn’t matter when he’s probably making as much or more on tv than he would be working 900 more hours a week as a coach.
Vrabel didn't turn the Titans around. He inherited a team that was weeks removed from the playoffs. Flores on the other hand inherited a team that was expected to be the worst team in NFL history and brought them two winning seasons. IMO Flores proved more he can turn a franchise around. Vrabel has not. Matter of fact Vrabels turned the team around into losers the last two seasons before he was fired. With that said I would still take Vrabel but the idea that the Jets need to get on their hands and knees and beg for Vrabel is pathetic. He's not Tomlin, Harbaugh or Reid. Not even close. He wasnt hired last off-season when any team could have taken him. I want someone who wants to come here and turn this team around, not someone who needs to be catered and begged to.
I will take a top HC with experience coupled with a good OC than a great OC as HC who has never dealt with HC duties….specially here in NY where player discipline on the field has been an issue.
"coupled with a good OC" is the part where I have very little confidence in when it comes to Vrabel and others...
