Yes, I always thought Gases philosophy, getting the ball into players hands in space, was a good one. He wasn’t a leader of men though. It could be the same with Johnson who knows, he gets covered a little by Campbell, who is great at leading and inspiring his team
They also have Hank Fraley leading the offensive line, Mark Brunell and JT Barrett with the QBs, and Antwaan Randle El as their receivers coach. I mean the team is loaded with former NFL players. That doesn’t mean Johnson can’t be a good head coach and wouldn’t create the same environment but I agree with you. It’s not like the McVay’s and Kevin O’Connell’s of the world aren’t also good leaders because they call a good game.
Not that I think either will come to the Jets but I would have Vrabel or Pete Carroll at the top of the list. We need a coach who can come in and set the culture first, we will be rebuilding at least next year without a decent QB as starter, may as well blow it up somewhat with Hall and/or Wilson traded out and build a solid oline before hopefully drafting a competent QB in 2026.
Zack Rosenblatt on X: "The #Jets will interview Mike Vrabel at the facility today. Over the last five months, I spent extensive time with Vrabel as he worked for the Browns. He reflected on his Titans tenure — and opened up about what he wants next. Inside his “gap year”: https://t.co/zUXIVRrdoV" / X
Bad look to take an interview for a job you have no intention of accepting. Wasteful of everyone's time. Since Vrabel is interviewing, I think he has interest. That being said, if Woody shows up and spooks off his interest, I understand
That depends on what template they are following this time around. It seems to change every time they hire somebody new.
The Bills hired Sean McDermott first and then McDermott recommended to the Pegula's that they hire Brandon Beane as the GM. It's worked out very well for the Bills. The most important thing is the GM/HC are on the same page in going about to rebuild the team into a contender.
It's just amazing that they're relying on people they fired for making bad decisions years ago to make decisions about the future for the same organization. Curious what John Idzik thinks we should do
I’m fine with Vrabel but for the love of god, Woody has to get his greedy paws OFF of the daily tasks of a football team, that would be a starting point for anyone to come into this building and fix this mess.
I was thinking the same thing. I thought that they changed the organizational structure when they hired Douglas and Saleh. Looks like they are going back to "both report to Woody," which is awful. I'd much rather have a president of football operations who makes those decisions, not Woody.
Isn’t that gonna be pretty awkward at the facility? They will be there practicing under Ulbrich, getting ready for a game and Vrabel will be walking through on an interview
Remember what Vrabel might have said he'd require to take the Jets job? A GM he could approve of. Perhaps they hire Vrabel first, then promise him the deciding vote on who the GM will be. The best selling point for the Jets job is the opportunity to build the franchise from the ground up. Throw a sack of cash in the mix and we just might get our man.
Be careful, there are many on this site that feel it was a great idea to hire Tanny and crew to find a GM. I battled this lunacy enough, hopefully you’re strong enough when they come after you. I never knew there was such love for the guy here.
I think someone here bet me (for charity) that Vrabel would turn down an interview. If you are reading this go with St. Jude's please
Given where this franchise has gone in the past 14 years, there's a lot of nostalgia for 09-10' and even the 00's, which is understandable. But I think too many forget what happened from 2011 - 2014 and what led to his and Rex's firings. And it's not like these guys went on to have any success in the NFL after. Sometimes the familiar is desirable. But this team needs to truly move in a new direction and take a chance on new hires IMO
@JetFanInPA may I present exhibit A. @Ralebird why would I, we have the great Mike Tannenbaum leading the process. You told me yourself how awesome he is, I wish we never fired him.
