I still think Bill O’Brien should get a look. 4 division titles in 7 years and two playoff wins. Coached Bryce Young to a Heisman in college and fixed the Penn State program to a respectable 22-15 after the Sanduski shit where they had very limited scholarships.
No coach can win on a consistent basis without a top 10 QB - the Jets do not have a top 10 QB on the roster - once Rodgers goes they have precisely nothing at QB - anyone coming into this team must know unless they get lucky in the draft at the QB position (which the Jets never do) then they are basically screwed and will be fired around the 3 year mark.
The league has become so QB focused you are correct. You cant play defense nowadays. So if you get a top QB your franchise is now set. If you don't you are practically screwed.
I would imagine a guy like Ben Johnson and other offensive coordinator’s wouldn’t want to come to the jets with no premier QB and that includes AR.
I would still think Flores would take the job. His stock is at an all time high right now. I think for coordinators when your window opens you can't be too picky, especially considering he had that situation in Miami. I would think if a team offered him an opportunity to be a head coach he would take it.
Douglas should have been fired as well. They should have cut ties with both of them in January (sooner than that actually) and gone over the top in their pursuit of one of the top candidates last year. Not doing so has done irreparable damage to this franchise that they won't be able to recover from anytime this decade.
Most likely not, but the good news is that there are only a few openings that do have a good QB. Chicago with Caleb Williams is one, though Caleb has not really proven he will be elite. And there is also Jax. Trevor however is not elite, but he is getting paid like elite. That is a little tricky situation as it may hamstring a team in other areas without having an elite QB to counterweight. We also don't know what coaches these teams want. So, it's still not obvious how this whole thing is going to play out yet, but there should be an opportunity to get a good coach. In spite of what Athletic is "reporting" blindly trusting sources who are desperately trying to shift the blame they deserve onto others, it looks like the Jets are not perceived to be a terrible situation, but actually one of the more desirable ones. There is some good talent on this team. QB is certainly an issue, but that would be an issue for most team looking for a new HC. And if we can tank properly to get a top 5 pick, the job will be even more desirable.
2 of 3 winning seasons. The one losing season in 2019 the Dolphins were expected to be one of the worst teams in NFL history but won 5 games. Yes didnt make the playoffs but going 10-6 typically gets you in. The cookie didnt crumble right for them that year.
Well, if the Jets hire Flores, I do not want to hear any complaining from you if Flores misses the playoffs for 3 straight years with the Jets since you want Flores
That’s a good point with Gruden. It would be a total circus, though I do think he’s a better coach than you give credit. The team needs a purge, and they need a bridge coach that can take us through it. Ron Rivera’s the man for the job.
And not only that but alienated their QB and got in trouble with the League. I am hearing reports and also on this board people are saying they want someone with experience, who proved they can win as opposed to a coordinator who never was a HC. But don't forget all these former head coaches proved they can lose too. In fact the most recent experience would be losing - or they would still be head coaches. Missing play-offs with a good record to me is meaningless. We need to MAKE play-offs after 14 years of not doing it. Why would we go with the "proven" guy who only proved he can't make play-offs? Vrabel would be the only one I would consider, and even he is at the end of the list. I mean the offensive coaches that he hired - Downing and Carter - are our coaches now. Are they any good? I don't think so. And after he fired them, he got new ones even worse! Tim Kelly was his OC last season. About to be fired again as a Giants TE coach. It's been a long time since he has found a good offensive staff and he did not exactly add any more new contacts lately. In the meantime we have Liam Coen available who has Bucks #4 in points and #3 in yards. 30 ppg and 400 yards per game with Baker as a QB is pretty amazing. And that is with Godwin on IR, and Mike Evans also missing quite a few games. VERY similar profile to Kevin O'Connell, who is doing wonders with Sam. People say they want sure thing, but Vrabel is not a sure thing either. I would argue someone like Coen has a higher probability of success than Vrabel, who recently failed, or Flores, with today's NFL much more offense oriented.
I like your thinking. Get someone who can score points. I’m not confident vrabel can do that. Anthony Lynn can. Apparently the men you suggested can. I want coaches who can score. So many of these guys here want another defensive coach. Cause that’s been fucking working great.
