Vrabel will be a top candidate and we’re actively looking. We’ll know, the media would love to report a top candidate turning down interviews with us.

I know I am going to get a ton of flack for this, but here goes....

I said it prior to hiring Salah, but I truly believe Mangini should get another shot here. You can easily make the argument that the most talented teams we had were on his watch, largely because of his eye for talent. He just wasn't ready to be an NFL head coach. He was too young and tried to emulate Bill, to a fault. He needed to be himself and kept shooting himself in the foot trying to be a hard ass, no nonsense guy, which didn't sit well with the players.

More importantly, he knows what this job entails, he can handle the market and most importantly, he can handle our insane owner.

I would go so far to say that even if not head coach, he may be a good guy to look at for GM (with a good money man beside him). That said, I think he's primed to be a successful NFL coach and this may be his time. Get him a good, young dynamic OC and let him do his thing.

    Eric...is that you?

My guess is the next HC of the NY Jets is a name we have not heard thrown around yet. Again, and I can't stress this enough, no one of any KNOWN worth is coming to this team. The only people who are going to take this job are guys who are looking for a shot that are NOT already big names with successful resumes in the NFL. No SUCCESSFUL NFL coordinator is coming to this team!!!!!!!!!!!! Not after what Stupid just did to Saleh and Douglas in mid-season. MOST expected those two to be fired after LAST year and, for those that were in the "wait and see how Rodgers does after injury..." Those people expected them to be fired AFTER this season. Firing coaches mid-season is a super drastic move. Not unheard of but not common either. Now, firing a GM mid-season is just stupid. It shows a lack of foresight, thoughtfulness and just a plain lack of understanding of how to manage people. Which is not surprising considering, up to now, neither Johnson has managed dick.

Vrabel isn't coming here, not only because Belichick will talk him out of it, because Vrabel didn't do that bad of a job in Tennessee and, I'm sure, he wants to coach for the foreseeable future. Definitely not a NY Jets hallmark. "We" aren't getting Ben Johnson, Kliff Kingsbury, Mike Vrabel, Jon Gruden...none of them. Blows my noodle that Stupid has reached out to Tannenbaum. He FIRED Tannenbaum. Clearly Mike needs $$$. If he didn't like what Tannenbaum did while with the team, what's a decade into the future going to get him? I find the entire thing laughable. Tannenbaum better be careful because, if he ever did want to step a toe back into the league, flirting with the NY Jets and Stupid could prove to be the last nail in his professional coffin.

Everyone sees the problem and no one can do anything about it. Stupid is the problem and Stupid isn't going to fire himself. We, the fans, simply get to sit and watch the dumpster burn.

The Jets should staff their FO and CS entirely with people that they have already fired for not doing a good job. Interestingly, they all seem to be available for employment.

Rich Kotite is still alive and available. Younger than Parcells actually

If Mangini is such a valuable commodity why has he worked in coaching for only five or six years in the last sixteen?

We also have to wait and see who gets fired this off season, Mcarthy and Pederson might be on the list of retread HC that may be available and could shake up the coaching spots that become available.

The trendy coordinators will probably accept first interviews just for experience part of the process and move on from Jets.

The only thing that would sour me on the process is if Jets hire HC first.

We know that the inner circle of the NFL teams are the ones that influence on who coaches, it’s why Brian Schottenheimer kept getting OC jobs in the NFL.

He was on with Colin Cowheard today, and he pretty much endorsed interest, and he would definitely answer the phone. He also said he knows the NY landscape and there is enough talent on this team as is, and spoke fondly of his accomplishments there. He also picked them to win the division, as many fans did.

I will say this, as if the past was not bad enough, but I will declare complete failure if Woody decides to have both the new GM and HC report to him, no matter who he picks. That’s why the VP of football ops makes nothing but good sense to me. It would be a GM on steroids, running the complete day to day, and isolate the owner from those decisions. Let the owner set the budget and expectations for the team.

Who knows!? Maybe he decided he enjoyed TV money and didn’t need the stress of being an NFL coach? Who knows how many times he threw his hat in the ring? Or maybe teams simply lost interest. I don’t know the answer, but I can tell you that he was always held in very high regard when it came to his football acumen. He proved that here with the teams he assembled, despite not getting to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Sometimes people need time to season and develop into the coach they’re gonna become. Look no further than our own Todd Bowles…. not that I’m saying he is an amazing coach, but what he’s doing in Tampa is certainly better than what he did here. He needed time to develop. His first stint here wasn’t ideal, but he’s turned into a damn good coach.

And people can’t use the “Tom Brady”excuse anymore because he’s doing it with Baker Mayfield.

There are plenty of examples of guys like that. Plus Mancini wants to be here and can actually deal with Woody!! That has to be factored into the equation as well.

If anyone thinks a young, up and coming assistant is going to want to work for Woody, you need a serious reality check. The talent pool is going to be extremely limited. Especially after everything that transpired this year. Woody has NEVER been more toxic.

If you "can tell (us) that he was always held in very high regard" perhaps you would tell us how you know this. If what you claim is true, I believe that he would not have been out of the league so long unless he truly is happy with the broadcast money and reduced stress it involves. The guy you describe would not have had to throw his hat into the ring it would have been snatched off his head by those you also say "may have lost interest." It can't go both ways and he's not a coach or a GM. Whatever Bowles has done does not reflect on Mangini - Bowles is in the NFL without any ten year hiatuses.

I agree with this. I don't think Vrabel comes here.

In all honesty to if you compare Rex and Vrabel they both had similar stints. Rex won more playoff games. Less playoff appearances but Vrabel was in a cake division. Id take Ryan over Vrabel but it is close, but regardless Vrabel probably does not come here.

It is wierd no one called him. He was fired late though right? Can't remember.
    Not a terrible idea.

5 of 6 years he has winning season and made playoffs 4 times. Winning record too.

    Why not Todd Monken?

He’s doing an incredible job with the Ravens offense. He seems to do a great job everywhere but not had a head coaching spot yet

The Jets interviewed Monken before they hired Saleh. He was with the Bucs at the time. Think he regrets not getting the job?

I get what you're saying, but GM and HC are jobs that have probably something like a 95% fire rate.
