November 13, 1977 Seahawks vs. Jets at Shea Stadium. Jim Zorn shuts out Jets and I had my first taste of Brandy from my friends dad..
There are two things to consider: First, the AFC Championship would have been played in Foxboro since the Pats had the better record. They had a major blizzard at the time the game would have kicked off. ( it wasn’t snowing in Pittsburgh ). Would the NFL have postponed the game to a later date maybe a day or so later? Considering the importance of the game and all the potential road hazards for traffic etc ? I remember back then reading a what if article about it. The second thing to consider is Pennington’s shoulder was busted....he would not have been playing in the AFC Championship game or the Super Bowl if the Jets advanced. So hypothetically the game would have been played with Brooks Bollinger at QB ( Quincy Carter has been released if I remember correctly ) possibly in a major blizzard at Foxboro which may or may not have helped the Jets chances. I’d personally go with a Jets loss......
Wasn’t his shoulder outta whack heading into the playoffs? And correct me if I’m wrong, but did I hear Abraham-who would been back that next week, went on a talk radio or tv show and picked the jets to lose or someone else to dome out of the AFC that year?
Kickoff/Opening Weekend 2001 Indianapolis Colts @ New York Jets 1:00pm It was Herman Edwards first game as head coach. Jets Lost 45-24
i believe his shoulder was injured during the Pittsburgh game but he stayed in not realizing the severity of the injury. He missed several throws towards the end of the game and it was revealed afterwards his shoulder was either separated or maybe even ligament damage - my memory kind of escapes me there. It was a severe injury though because it took the entire off season for him to be able to throw a football and even when he did during the 2005 preseason he still wasn’t 100%. He came back too soon and wound up missing most of 2005. I don’t recall anything about Abraham that you describe......
1976, week 5 at Shea, Namath comes in relief to beat OJ and the Bills for the first win of the Lou Holtz era. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197610100nyj.htm
1996 Jets Patriots home in old stadium nose bleed seats. Took my daughter my business partner took his son. Obnoxious Pats fan in front of us vomited on his seat and left. Fights occurred. My 5 yr old daughter thought it was the best... By far my favorite game was watching the Jets beat Miami at Wembly with Fitzmajic as our QB following an epic pub crawl organized by “Donkey”.
YES! mine too! Todd was playing with a broken rib/flack jacket and a bad ankle. Shea went nuts after the TD. The crowd was roaring 10 minutes after the game was over. Can’t ever remember ever having that feeling again after a Jet game.
