On paper, the Jets have one of, if not, the strongest lineups in the league. So there is cause for excitement. However, the wild card is Rodgers' health. He's already ruined one season, and at 40-41 years old, can easily ruin another. So I'm on the cautious side.
This is where Tyrod Taylor comes in. Taylor is a big upgrade over Zach at the backup QB position. Who knows how the season will play out. The Jets always win the off season only to fail during Sept thru Dec. If Rodgers does get hurt and miss time the season won't be over. Last year everyone knew it was over since they had no decent backup QB. Now the Jets have that.
Given the roster the Jets have assembled, anything less than a deep playoff run will be disappointing. Not sure if Tyrod Taylor can deliver that. But you're right, he's an improvement over Wilson.
I agree with all the "Cautiously Optimistic" fans out there. The potential is definitely there and this team is better than last year's by a wide margin (mostly because of the O line.) But, like always in Jet Land, I'll be waiting for it all to go to hell in a handbasket just like last year. There are BIG injury concerns on offense and I feel like we're relying on a lot to go right and break our way. Rogers is no guarantee. He could easily be a shot fighter after last year. Smith hasn't played a full season since 2015, Vera-Tucker has back to back season ending injuries, Moses (while he's been healthy) is getting older. Mike Williams probably won't be 100% ready before the season starts and who knows if he'll still be great. We need to add o line depth with the 10th pick. Get the best tackle available and don't think twice. Odds are he will have to play and play significant time this year. There was tape all over the internet of guys running wide open all over the field last year, but our quarterbacks just couldn't get them the ball because the line was bad and they were the worst QB room in the league. Rogers (if healthy) will have no problem with that. Get O line depth and keep him upright as much as possible.
When they start winning consistently, I may get excited BUT, after 57 years watching this team I just am happy to be vertical....
Not excited at all. Too many holes on the roster. Crazy Old man Rodgers is still at the helm. Oline not good. Unproven headcoach. Not a great GM. Shitmouth bitch for an owner.
You left the part out where we'd then have to circle back around to an actual acknowledgement of who and what our current OC is actually capable of when you can no longer dismiss that off as "you don't need an OC or any good offensive game planning when you got Aaron Rodgers as your QB!". Or at that point are we just reaching that much further and making the same claim stuff about about Tyrod Taylor? The Jets are clearly no longer the worst team in their own division for the first time in a long time. The OL should be better, and we'll hopefully have a full year of healthy Breece Hall to lean on even when Rodgers ends up looking every bit the part of a 41yo QB in the NFL that would probably have done his legacy better by retiring. At worst here there is reason to be more rationally optimistic that this season can be more fun and enjoyable to watch then last year's team.
I voted cautious. I always feel hopefully this time of year and that hope rarely translates into a good season. But hey maybe this is the year they kick ass.

That’s what the New York Jets sought out to do this offseason. After letting Bryce Huff walk in free agency, New York acquired Haason Reddick in a blockbuster deal with Philadelphia and managed to keep the remainder of its core unit together. Now, last year’s formidable unit is back and ready for an even better year in 2024. New York Jets 53-Man Roster Projection With the addition of Reddick, the Jets’ defense went through somewhat of an organizational restructure. Gone are the massive waves of pass rushers now patrolling the edge. That doesn’t mean the team will be bad, but the loss of John Franklin-Myers and Huff will bring in questions surrounding the unit’s run defense. Those answers might be solved here as we break down what the defense and special teams units could look like for New York in 2024. Defensive Tackle (5) Starters: Quinnen Williams, Solomon Thomas Backups: Javon Kinlaw, Leki Fotu, Leonard Taylor III When you have one of the best interior defensive linemen in the game, the need to surround him with other All-Pro talent on the interior isn’t as important. With Quinnen Williams, the Jets’ defense is still elite and among the most fearsome in the game. Incomers Javon Kinlaw and Leki Fotu should help their overall run defense as well. Don’t count out the former Miami Hurricane Leonard Taylor III, either. The UDFA has a good shot at making the roster and being another project for the defensive coaching staff to work on. Edge (5) Starters: Haason Reddick, Jermaine Johnson II Backups: Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons, Braiden McGregor This unit looked a lot different before the draft. Before the Franklin-Myers trade, this Jets unit was seen as a top group in the entire league. It can still be considered that due to Reddick’s presence, but the coaching staff and front office are banking on improvements from Will McDonald IV and Michael Clemons. If neither performs up to par, or even if Jermaine Johnson II slips a little, the Jets’ pass rush will suffer greatly. Linebacker (5) Starters: C.J. Mosley, Jamien Sherwood, Quincy Williams Backups: Zaire Barnes, Chazz Surratt Mosley and Quincy Williams remain one of the best linebacker duos in the NFL. Williams is coming off a first-team All-Pro season, and Mosley, despite his age, is one of the more consistent players in his position. It’s Sherwood, the former safety turned linebacker, that provides the biggest question. If Sherwood continues his development, New York could have the next top linebacker no one knows about. This is still a deep group overall and is a strong reason why this team could remain in the top five defensively. Cornerback (6) Starters: Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, Michael Carter II Backups: Brandin Echols, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Tae Hayes There isn’t a better cornerback trio in the league better than Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, and Michael Carter II. Carter is one of the best slot corners in the game, and Gardner is the first corner since the NFL merger in 1970 to be named a first-team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons. The depth of the unit was lost when free agency hit, but Brandin Echols and Qwan’Tez Stiggers are high-upside players. Don’t sleep on Tae Hayes to be a quality sixth option, either. Safety (4) Starters: Chuck Clark, Tony Adams Backups: Ashtyn Davis, Jaylen Key The safety room is easily the weakest on the Jets as a whole entering 2024. Chuck Clark is coming off ACL surgery, and the Ashtyn Davis/Tony Adams combination played well, but not nearly as well as other players along the defense. When healthy, Clark can transform this entire unit into one to be feared like the rest of the defense, but it’s asking a lot for a safety to come in and have that impact when injuries begin to mount. Specialist (3) Kicker: Greg Zuerlein Punter: Thomas Morstead Long Snapper: Thomas Hennessy There was something odd about how dominant the Jets’ special teams and defensive units were compared to their offense. In consecutive weeks, Lance Zuerlein and Thomas Morstead would set their team up for success with the defense taking advantage. The problem? You cannot rely on special teams to be your only offense. Entering the new season, the top trio is back and should continue to be among the best in football.
I have been fooled by every Douglas off-season, goes to show how little I know. Now, I have moved to Missouri- show me some W's then I will get excited.
That is the most likely defensive part of the roster, but JBC (Jarrick Bernard- Converse), Isaiah Oliver, Marcelino McCrar-Ball and the rookie UDFAs could have something to say about that.

I have to admit, I am getting worried. I am too excited and confident. I thought to myself today the Jets should be favorites in all 17 games. What the hell am I thinking? Setting myself up for more misery? I haven’t learned in 30 years? Nope.
Cautious. Far too much bad shit has happened, especially after last season. How can you trust anything? That said, i will ramp up some when camp and preseason games start.
Honestly, I can't be anything more optimistic than cautious. This team has not shown any ability to field a healthy, competent OL in at least two seasons. I can't remember the last time the Jets had a decent OL. So they revamped the OL with Smith, Moses, and Simpson but besides Simpson the other two have not proved their durability in years. Fashanu WILL play a lot and I can almost say that's a foregone conclusion. How will he do? If the foundation of your offense fails like it did last year? Aaron Rodgers and Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson will all land on injured reserve. So although I like the Jets skill position players, I just don't have any faith on the OL staying upright and functional. So honestly I'm cautious or maybe cautiously skeptical about the Jets chances to make the playoffs in 2024. If they fail again? Joe D and Saleh are both gone and that thrusts us into rebuilding mode yet again.
My handle says it all. I'm also a Mets and Rangers fan and with that comes at least 3 decades of disappointment, failed expectations and Murphy's Law. Unfortunately, as much as I want to, I am not really all that capable of enjoying the ride anymore. The Mets make me crazy, I can barely pay attention unless they are super hot, which happens often enough to keep me interested. The Rangers, and hockey playoffs in general, are stressful and I basically just hold on for dear life expecting the worst. And then there's the Jets...............I no longer expect ANYTHING to go right for them. SOMETHING will ALWAYS go wrong, and I find myself just waiting for it to happen - and it always does. So.........cautious is the best I can do in this case. The ingedients are all there - but see the last sentence of my previous paragraph.
I bought in last year, thought we were going to the super bowl. I won't do it again!!! I'm on a week by week schedule
