What were his mistakes in Miami? 1) personality issues: pissing off the media and players at times 2)unbalanced focus on the offense, the QBs 3)poor roster building decisions Am I missing any others? 1) he might never fix. That’s who he is 2) maybe, but I still think he will always be unbalanced to a degree 3) hopefully fixed as the GM takes over that job. But then again, Gase picked out the GM. So it’s another maybe. 1 no and 2 maybes. But I probably missed a couple other mistakes
Check the sig.. 2020 will be it for me if this team is still in the shitter. So between now and then, I'm watching for improvement. If the HC can actually improve both himself and the team, it will show in the play on the field and in the record. Maybe Gase isn't the egomaniac we were led to believe or maybe he is. Either way, the record will tell the story. After 5 decades, labels become meaningless..
If you're correct that those were his "mistakes" in Miami, then my take is a little different. Just because he pissed off the media and players doesn't mean that he has a personality issue. The media can get pissed off if you don't tell them everything and give them lots of material. They can be asses and snipe regardless of how a HC responds to questions. That said HCs need to keep their cool and not lose it or burn bridges with the media. I don't keep up with Miami, but it seems that Gase certainly did cause some of his own problems with the media. I am less concerned with players getting mad at the HC. Some players get mad because they're not starting or playing in the way they think they should play. Some players overestimate their own worth and positive contributions and don't do the filmwork or put in the time working to improve their shortcomings. Some get mad because they're made to work too hard. A lot of the Giants' players supposedly hated Coughlin yet they still won 2 SBs with him as HC. To be fair, HCs can also be jerks and assholes like Parcells. As long as they pull the right strings often enough and win, that is overlooked, but if they don't win, then it becomes a big problem. Gase never had the QB in Miami. Now he potentially does. If Sam develops the way we think he will, then the quirky and irritating aspects of Gase's personality will be minimalized, and even the media won't be able to say very much. Still, it is a bit of a concern as Jarvis Landry was supposedly the perfect WR for Gase's offense, yet they feuded and Gase got rid of him. I may be wrong, but I think many, if not most, HCs are unbalanced. If they came through the ranks as a defensive coach, that's going to be what they know the best, what they feel the most comfortable and confident with, and what they're biased towards. The same for offensive coaches. This is where I give Gase a lot of credit for hiring a strong personality in Greg Williams. He will help keep things more balanced if Gase focuses too much on the offense or shows too much favoritism towards the offense. I think Douglas will also help there. The poor roster decisions are actually the thing that concerns me most if what I've read about his not wanting to invest much on interior OL is true, and if he was too focused on the offense to the detriment of the defense. Hopefully, that was because of the poor talent situation in Miami, especially not having a quality QB, and the poor GM with which he had to work. Again, hopefully Douglas and Greg Williams will help here
I’m not sure he’s learned from them. For some people it’s very, very hard to accept that they may be wrong about something. Those people literally learn nothing from their failures. Aside of that, even if he has learned from his mistakes, it doesn’t mean he’s incapable of making them again. I’m hoping none of that matters and he sets our FQB up for a successful career, whether he’s here for the majority of it or not.
I think it's funny that Gase is considered the wild card. Greg Williams is the guy most likely to go off the rails.
Well, I'm an eternal pessimist. I think the Jets suck and I think Douglas' lack of moves proves he's content to go into the regular season with GAPING holes, holes that can be seen from a MILE away, at Corner and Center. I think he's perfectly content to see Sammy get his a$$ handed to him on a play by play basis because the OL is damn near criminally negligent. I think Sammys development will almost be retarded slow because our GM cares more about rolling 30 million into next years cap than he does protecting our young franchise player. Furthermore, I think our defense is complete and utter TRASH even after adding Mosley because our GM can't get off his fat a$$ and get a cornerback. Don't believe ANY of this crap like Williamson claiming our defense can be top 5. If they don't fix Cornerback, they won't even be top 20.
Fucking awesome post bro, I can tell you really know what you are talking about. I look forward to more from you. Now, can you expand on your thoughts of Douglas’ lack of moves? What precisely did you want him to do since he has been hired? Exactly what center or corner did he miss on in the last 3-4 weeks that he has been on the job did he miss out on?
Give Douglas some time. Hell, he has been GM a little over month. Some people are really impatient. Sheesh!! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
He's been steadfastly working on a time travel device to extract Darrell Revis from 2009, and bring him into the fuuuuuutuuuuuuuuure
Don't worry Douglas will be fired. Probably not as quickly as you would like but it's going to happen. Question: When he is fired, how does an eternal pessimist celebrate?
I've yet to see anyone come up with legit mistakes made by Gase. The reality is he wanted out of Miami, basically told the owner he was a fuck tard when it came to football and was out of a job for 15 minutes. He gets a job with a team with low expectations, a potential franchise QB and gets and at best a mediocre GM canned within months and replaced with a huge upgrade that he can work with. The guy has come here and in a matter of months took a large vat of adrenalin and stuck it into the dead lifeless heart of this organization. We have a pulse for the first time in years. How about waiting to kill Gase after at least 1 regular season game.
Look at a terrible coach like Mangini......he got handed an undeserved second chance too quickly. Rather than reflecting on his mistakes and adapting, he doubled down on his approach to try to prove he was right. The results of course were even worse. That's ego, and wanting to prove you can outsmart everyone else. Gase is cut from the same cloth, and just got handed an undeserved second chance too quickly, like Mangini. He will not change or adapt, or learn anything from past mistakes. Quite the contrary imo..
Mangini's 10 wins in 2 years looks pretty good in comparison. Shumar got 9 wins in 2 years, Chudzinski went 4 and 12, Pettine got 10 wins in 2 years, Jackson was 3 36 and 1 in 2 and a half years.
