Totally agree. And for those not familiar with the term, when someone is a Smith Fan, that means they ARE NOT Jet fans. They have a different agenda, as you point out. It's all well and good to try and be fair here, but when the Jets won a game they were only favored by one point after a tough loss against a division opponent, and dominate them, the game only really being close because special teams suck which of coures has nothing to do with Fitzpatrick, their different agenda obviously smacks of placing their fantasy world expectations for the worst Qb in the league the last two years above the interests of the team. They are not being fair and reasonable, so let's not pretend this is an honest debate. Sure we can all say no one really knows what Smith would do if he got in there, and no one is saying Fitzpatrick is Aaron Rodgers. But at least when the Tebots infested this place the Jets were not a winning team. At 3-1 the idea that you replace your starting Qb for a awful Qb like Smith is not only unreasonable. It evidences a lack of knowledge of the game. It's not going to happen, so maybe the mods should take the Smith Fans off these game threads and let them have their own "corner" like they did with the Tebots.
And I love the one dude fantasizing that "with a flick of the wrist" Geno hits Marshall for a TD. Conveniently ignoring that also with a flick of the wrist his quick out to Marshall is a pick 6 the other way, with the flick of the wrist his screen to Powell is also a pick 6. Oh and the fumbles and the 15 yard backpedaling sacks. Yes, let's fantasize about the superstar Geno and forget the real Geno. Hey, let's try it for one game. How could losing one game in a 162 game season hurt. This is baseball, right? Plenty of time to experiment. _
Not an adherent to letting Geno anywhere near the field as long as the Jets are winning, but Fitz doesn't inspire any kind of confidence at all. I counted to four-mississippi for that lollipop to Marshall to come down.
Complete nonsense. Smith was not kicking ass in camp. If he was doing that he would have ALREADY been given the job back. He was pencilled in as the starter because Fitzpatrick had a broken leg. Meantime we had the IK incident, and any questions the new CS and FO had about Smith's leadership "qualities" were answered. He doesn't have any and the locker room does not support him. He didn't merely lose the job, a job he only had because there had been no real competition, he had it taken away because the CS lost faith in him because of the IK incident. I also don't understand this "we would be winning better!" with Smith argument. Did you watch the fish game? Special teams gave up 246 yards while we gained only 70. Even numbers there and the game would not have been even close. Come to think of it, maybe I'd be up for putting Smith in for punt coverage.
I'm not sure anyone here considers Fitz great or confidence inspiring or even above-average. I'm not. He's a journeyman. I never expected a SB this year, but I'd like to be contending for a playoff spot in December. My aspirations for this year are not that lofty. Not after last year. I'm just glad we're not already irrelevant. _
Yes. Despite overall weakness in the AFC and the lack of competition from the fish and at this point probably the Bills as well for a wild card spot, each win will count in playoff seeding and of course in making the playoffs in the first place. The Jets cannot afford to do a mid-season experiment at this point. Fitzpatrick has made no real game killing mistakes. His interceptions have been half tipped passes and non-PI calls. They've all been downfield, unlike the pick sixes, short passes giving good field position, and fumbles and sacks where's he's running toward the Jet goal line we saw with Smith. There's no reason to expect if Smith gets in there that we've seen the last of that sort of putrid football.
Yes. Let's step back a bit here and look at the big picture. While I agree and am hardly expecting a Super Bowl year, it is important that the new regime build a winning culture. Bowles was interviewed and said the most positive thing he's seen is the positive attitude and mental toughness the team is showing. These are new, and are not here only because Ryan left for Bufalo and Idizk went back to the back office, this time in Jville rather than Seattle. The Jets want to have something to build on with this new regime. Fitzpatrick is not a long term answer. But he does represent a turning away from the awful Smith. Right now, that means Fitz is a step in the right direction.
I think saying Fitz was the reason the Philly game was lost and saying Geno should be playing are too different things. I think Fitz played a very bad game against Philly and was ONE OF THE REASONS we lost that game. At 3-1 anyone who thinks a switch should be made to Geno at this point needs their head examined. Why would we make a change now? And I am one who still thinks Geno isn't done but this team's confidence, in my opinion is in part because they have a veteran QB that knows how to be a good leader, doesn't make bonehead mistakes at critical times and has the respect of the locker room. Could Geno be 3-1 at this point? Maybe. But the facts state that the Jets are 3-1 with Fitz and under no circumstances should a switch even be considered at this point.
The fact that we couldn't run out the clock without giving Ivory another half dozen carries is serious cause for alarm. No way that guy is going to last the entire season at this pace.
Are you willing to take that risk at 3-1? That's a serious question. Would you insert Geno when he's fully heathy if we're 4-1 after Washington.
As I said in another post. Interceptions are one thing and bad turnovers are another. Geno routinely provides us fans with bad turnovers. He even did it in the preseason vs Detroit. The pick 6 is his niche. Showing no progress and continuing to make the same mistakes that cost the team direct points. You can't win like that
Like I said yes and yes because I believe that Geno would be an upgrade personally....Yea, there's a chance he plays worse but not much worse to where the potential upside isn't worth it...... Like I said before this is all assuming that Geno has been working his ass off behind the scenes....if he's just going through the motions then he doesn't deserve a chance....Obviously we won't know the answer to this We are 3-1 because of our defense and running game not Fitz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He didn't even play against the Lions in the preseason....just making shit up now His last few games he played for us he looked pretty good overall....was it progress or a mirage? I'd like to find out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Again...now as I read/heard it. For all intents and purposes he was "kicking ass" in camp. Period. Even the fools at Yahoo Sports agree with me: Current Power Rankings on Yahoo
You're right about Detroit, my mistake. However, Geno smith has set an NFL record for pick 6's in his first two seasons. Do you remember Chicago on Monday night last year, buffalo, Minnesota just to name a few? This doesn't include how clueless he is in the pocket, bad sacks, fumbles and horrific understanding of the blocking scheme. Did he have one or two good games at the end of the season last year...yea but I'm not willing to remove Fitz to "find out" if Geno has learned.
What makes you believe that Geno would be an upgrade? What specifically has he done to show you this? I'm very intrigued to hear what you're seeing that the coaching staff and basically every other NFL expert isn't. Just admit, you want Geno to start because you have an agenda or you're trying to troll.
Yes that is concerning. But Powell was not available, and Miami was still in the game only because of the lousy special teams play. That has to be fixed, btw. The special teams numbers were way out of line.
Why would I have an agenda? I would say Mezzavo, who feels the same way as me, is a pretty respected and credible poster over the years If you check my past posts I'm pretty reasonable on all other topics...I have no agenda and I'm not a troll Geno at his best is better than Fitz at his best.....Geno might never be any good but look at Sanchez in the Jets offense with Ryan vs Sanchez last year in Philly I just want to see how he looks with this offense...he looked pretty good in training camp from all accounts That's all man...I'm a Jets fan just like everyone else here Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
