The fact that you're right is pathetic and a true indictment of how stupid and reckless it was to destroy a rebuild that was already in progress to try and win now. Yes, they screwed up on the QB but boo hoo, most teams screw up the QB. There was a way around this without putting every single egg in the Aaron Rodgers basket. With a young team that had multiple good players on cap friendly rookie deals, it would've been pretty easy to do a QB reset with a cheap veteran. You either draft a guy in the mid rounds and let him sit, or sign a SECOND cheap veteran as a backup and worry about a young QB later Everyone from the least knowledgeable putz to the most informed NFL insider knew the Jets were a decent - not great, not HOF, not even very good, but decent - QB away from contending. No, not Super Bowl favorites, but no matter what they'd have you believe, we weren't really SB contenders with Rodgers either. He gave us a chance, and just about any "decent" QB would've given us a very similar chance. Rodgers was always overblown here. But this is what happens when your owner gets restless and decides he needs a HOFer in here with no regard for how it upsets the balance. And when that same owner is a starstruck imbecile who cares more about money and publicity than winning. I have no doubt he wants to win, but only for what it would do for his pocket and the reputation of the franchise. He doesn't want to WIN the same way we all do. As for Douglas, he has a lot of good points but his insistence on for the most part bargain hunting for the OL and backup QBs has hurt the team 3 years in a row. I'm not ready to say what so many others say and accuse him of not being able to admit a draft mistake in Wilson - I still believe it's being forced to a large degree - but he is not without fault by any measure. The entire management team has failed the 52 in order to continue to develop a guy they wish very hard could be good - but not only has he not shown it, they didn't give him the proper tools. And spare me the "this team was built for Aaron Rodgers" nonsense - Zach is not ready for a system built for him, so it doesn't matter. Only a handful of guys are here specifically because Aaron is here, and a professional OC should be able to make some adjustments to game plan and system in 10 weeks - and frankly, if your guy can't handle either the system or the adjusted system, he shouldn't be in there. As so many have said, there's not nearly as much shame in keeping Zach as the 2 as there is in CONTINUING with him as the 1 while the rest of the team twists in the wind. I'm off the soap box - just so damn tired of Groundhog Day.
Those guys are worse than Zach? Most of those guys are clearly better than him and would be an upgrade here. those guys suck worse. thats the whole point. there are a ton of sucky Qbs in the NFL. there are probably 5-6 elite ones. another 5-6 good ones, another 5-10 serviceable ones, and like 30 shit ones.
