I agree, its going to be a LONG season. Rookie QBs rarely do well.

He had happy feet in the 4th in a meaningless game. Imagine what he's gonna do when Suggs is flying past D'Brick and the O-line is getting obliterated. I dunno, I just wasn't a huge fan of him coming out of school.

Thank God the Mets are playing well.

If Clemens is the future, we might as well start it off now. Or at least, we have to see what he is. If Chad is going to miss a lengthy period of time, we should treat it for what it is and let Clemens get in his lumps and prepare for the future. I know it's only one game but we all know that Chad is a placeholder for Clemens so we might as well just let the Clemens era begin so we can see what he can do so this offseason we can address the positions of need.

No? How about all the people who don't like Pennington because they feel the playoffs are not good enough and they want Super Bowls? I keep hearing the answer to getting to the "next level" is replacing Chad with Clemens. So one can only deduct from that they feel Clemens is going to win some Super Bowls for us. That's the only "next level" above the playoffs, where we keep getting with Pennington.

    Agreed

Under the correct circumstances, yes. Pulling a guy who wins and consistently reaches the playoffs to see if he can play is very unreasonable.

Obviously he will not be 100%, but more likely he will be out. We just have no idea and with Mangini's secret ways, we will not know till late this week. Which sucks. I dunno, if he is out for any length of time, I have a sick feeling, cause I like CP, that he has played his last game as the Jets starting QB.

You're putting words into a lot of peoples mouths. Pennington is a known commodity and a known ceiling, and a lot of people don't feel like he can deliver that superbowl ring (never ending debate). No one really knows what we have in Clemens but we'll never find out until he gets to play. No one's saying he's the next (insert name here), we just want to find someone better than Chad and right now Clemens is obviously the guy to try.

It's too bad Chad had to go down like that yesterday, he WAS playing well, but I welcome the rumored Clemens start with open arms even if it is probably a loss.

There are no Mulligans, Pennington was drafted in the first round and didn't get a chance to start until his third year even though Herm gave him every chance to become the starter in TC that year something Clemens has not had the luxury of getting.

Personally I would love to see Clemens succeed and upgrade the position for us. If he can't, better to find out sooner rather than later especially if we are going to have a top pick next year. I wouldn't want to pass on 3 more franchise QB's.

You do realize that everyone passed on Brady five times? You also realize that Clemens had a chance to win the job in an open competition the first year he was here? Point being it's a very inexact science, so if a coach has a guy who can win and reach the playoffs, he generally sticks with him.

We passed on those guys when we didn't have a QB on the team who was physically able to perform. The Pats grabed Brady even though they had a multiple all pro QB who had allready taken them to a SB.

Clemens was never given a shot to start in year one that wasn't the plan. I would like to see him only to see if he is has all the tools and the mind set to be a solid NFL QB. Better to find out now while we are rebuilding and may have a top 15 pick next year.

If Clemens plays, this won't be bollinger vs. the ravens in 05, mangini will let him throw the ball. Lets have some faith, believe in the kid.

what are you talking about? Clemans had every chance to start last year. You are speculating about what the plan was. You are wrong. Chad won the starting job.

I've heard plenty of people say that Pennington is not going to take the Jets to the "next level" (including me) - IMO he is the kind of QB who can manage a team with a great defense to that level, but not carry one himself, and the Jets show no sign of having that kind of defense any time soon. That is absolutely nothing like saying that Clemens is the next Brady. What I hear from people is that Clemens should be put in to see if he is the guy who can take the team there (I personally had not quite gotten that far, but an injury makes it a moot point) - once again, nothing like saying that he actually is that guy.

That depends on your goals. As I've said many other times, Pennington's history that when healthy he is good for 9-10 wins but not more, and those teams don't win Super Bowls. He's also on the wrong side of 30 and is injury-prone. Plenty of teams who have made the playoffs change their QBs in circumstances like that, and it's not unreasonable at all.

So-so, vs the Chiefs.... We lost on that great play by Priest Holmes near the end... Chad was pedestrian at best, but showed a lot of promise, energy and leadership....

That kind of game is the best we can hope for with KC. We are not going to beat the Ravens without a ton of luck... All I can hope for is the defense shows a little life, the OL comes together a little more, and KC doesn't get hurt....

He went 23 for 30 and 245 yards in a loss to the Chiefs in the Meadowlands. The week before he played most of the game at Jacksonville and went for 281 yards although he directed the Jets to 3 drives that ended in turnovers and the Jets lost 28-3.

There's no comparing Chad's first few games and KC's. Chad had an offensive line with 3 guys on it that you could say Pro Bowl in the same breath and nobody would laugh (Mawae, Fabini, Thomas) and a good journeyman in Jumbo Elliot. When Dave Szott came back the Jets had a top 5 offensive line.

Kellen Clemens has one guy who is a plus in Mangold and 4 guys playing like stiffs. He's going to get mauled just like the Ravens would have mauled Chad.

Herm gave Chad a chance to be the starter in favor of aging Testaverde?

I must have lived in other universe in the past decade.

The Jets lost. I think it was either the KC game or the Cleveland game -- i just cant recall. They lost both. They were leading both and blew leads. In the Cleveland game, Couch (i think) threw a two point pass from his back 50 yards straight up in the Northrup's hands. In KC, I think Holmes ran for a 30 yard or so TD at the end.
