You are Joe Douglas. Tell me what you would do this offseason.

Or draft the real deal next year. This is a 2 year minimum rebuild. Let him build o line and all that then work on other stuff. This is a good year for offense, not so great for d. Douglas has time to get this team built.

    I sincerely disagree.

Let him get paid elsewhere. Too injury prone for my taste. If he performs like Myles Garrett - maybe. I can deal with that. At current state? No.

Like I said somewhere else - the best bet would be to let Douglas and Williams work on this with the picks they have.

Clowney is the type of player this defense needs. An impactful game changer. Can't believe people would be apprehensive about paying him but wanna throw $13,$14 million at a dime a dozen guy like Anderson

He's missed 21 games over his first six years and he's coming off his worst production year of his career. He also battled a sports hernia all year.

Clowneys a dominant player when he wants to be. He can really take games over. But he also disappears for stretches at a time. That as his MO coming out of college and has followed him.

If we do throw a ton of money at a defensive end, I'd prefer him over Barrett. And Ngakoue over all three, but I doubt he doesn't get tagged.

He has missed very few games since his rookie year. Saying he missed 21 games over the 1st six years is accurate but misleading in this context. He missed 12 his rookie year and 1 as a rest when they had the division wrapped up another year.

You gonna pay him close to Aaron Donald money for average to above average pass rush productivity? Dude is an elite run defender and can do everything, but he is not a great pass rusher by any means.

I wouldn't touch any of these pass rushers cept for Ngakoue. Clowney is a beast though, a little dirty.

You're right, it is. But he's had 3-4 surgeries on his knees and this is the second time in his life with a sports hernia related issue in 6 years. I wouldn't be willing to do the 5-6 year, $100-$120 million dollar contract with $80 million guaranteed that he'll demand.

he is the playmaker that this defense doesn't have. And you are right, he's great against the run. especially on the edges where this defense struggles

We all have many plans for what the Jets should do. I look at Douglas and the teams he comes from. The Ravens and Eagles tend to keep their own and will pay a free agent but never really over pay. I wonder if he takes a two prong approach. The first part is he puts money on how much he'd pay for player. So for the top tier players he puts the money out there. If they accept it great. If not he quickly moves onto plan b. In years past I believe between what the owners wanted and the gms felt they needed they'd pay top dollar for players. I think those days are done unless we make a run next year and we are a player away but I do not think it will happen.

Prong 2 is dicey. Douglas selling the program. I think he can sell it but with Gase might be an issue. Hopefully he can. Time will tell.

No matter what hopefully this offseason we find offensive linemen, at least two or three new receivers, and a running back or two since Bell is the only one under contract. We'll know more in six weeks when free agency begins.

Trade down and get multiple picks. The difference between great OL men and good ones is not that much. Second and third round WR's make plenty of catches in this league.

IMO he should make a play for an edge rusher (of course he’ll have to overpay) and sign a solid but cheap CB in FA then focus all offense in first 5 picks focusing only OLs, WRs and a RB. Build and set foundation with Sam.

Re-sign Jenkins, Edwards, Poole, and Hewitt.
Let Robby walk. Jets can get another veteran cap casualty WR who probably sign 1-2 years.

Saw an interesting article from Connor Hughes about the Jets offseason plan. Looking at it I can see something like this happening and I'd be happy with it.

    1. Making a run at Vic Beasley during the second wave of free agency. Beasley flashed in the beginning of his career. An injury and production slowed him down. I seem him like Shaq Barrett. A guy who has potential but for whatever reason he didn't. Signs a prove it deal and plays well. I'd be happy with this signing.

    2. The Jets going for Brashad Perriman to replace Anderson. I'd be happy with that too. Probably won't cost much. Played well in Tampa last year. Maybe a late bloomer. I think Robby is better but will produce and help.

    3. The Jets going after Joe Schobert. I like Schobert and he'd be a nice addition. I know too he played for Williams. I'm not opposed but knowing we need other positions not sure I want to spend there. Also what is happening with Avery Williamson. Could be wrong but I think he is cut. Definitely a fan favorite but with the way Hewitt and Burgess played last year and knowing how much we are paying Mosley I don't think they'd pay alot for another inside linebacker.

    4. He mentioned the Eagles connection. Going after Ronald Darby, Jordan Howard and Vinny Curry. Darby I can see us in on. He'd help but doesn't tip the scale. Howard I can see since we only have Bell under contract. Opposite player of Bell so it makes sense. Again doesn't tip the scale. Would love a fast running back than an older guy but not opposed for a short yardage guy. Curry is 31. Plays DE. Not opposed for the right amount of money to help the DEs.

    5. Graham Glasgow and Devin Funchess are mentioned too. Glasgow makes sense. Any help on the oline. I think I'd prefer Perriman over Funchess but if we don't get Perriman I'd be ok with Funchess.

This is the type of offseason I am expecting. Signing a bunch of 2nd tier free agents who can start or push starters. Guys looking for prove it deals. These type of players would be perfect pieces that are still two great drafts away from truly competing. signing these types of players and a great draft I believe the Jets could push for a playoff spot. Time will tell. March 18 can' t get here quick enough.

We all know what the Jets need to do this offseason and draft. Which obviously means we’ll spend big on an edge rusher in FA and draft a CB at 11.

I wanted Beasley so badly back in that draft. He's the type of guy who will sign a prove it deal. No way Barrett does. He lead the NFL in sacks. Outlier season or not he was a force this past season. He'll want to break the bank.

Agree with you on Barrett. Was just comparing Beasley being like a Barrett. Guy with potential. Change of scenery helps him to his potential. Beasley would be a great addition. Love his speed. Be nice if we can sign him.

Duh. Sorry I misread. I think we need to take some cracks at lower-tier edge rushers like that. We haven't really done so. Good post though. Some interesting players in there.

I don't like Funchess. Vinny Curry seems like just another Henry Anderson but he could be worst a shot.

I could live with all of this and one big time free agent, either Conklin or thuney.

When we were crippled in the WR position season before last, nobody wanted to touch Perriman, bad hands if my memory is correct, he then signed with the Browns.

Now some would kick Robby for him

Hopefully Joe Douglas has not been given instructions to make the Jets look better next year at all costs. There are zero years left in the sell tickets at all costs paradigm for the Jets.

The Idzik Revolt is going to look like a tea party compared to what comes next if this regime fails.

At the same time, some FA's will be needed to supplement the core that hopefully comes from the draft.
