This is a Revis thread and you continue to Highjack it wiht your Anti Sanchez propaganda. I think you may want to come to terms here BB, Sanchez will have a shot at being the starter opening day, should he beat out the "challenger". Revis, will likely not be on the opening day roster per sources and his desire to be the highest paid Defensieve player in the NFL. Come to terms with it bud
@flajetfan (sorry...can't quote) If that is the case and that can be done then I think the Niners would be more apt to give up more in trade. I'm just not sure that can be done.
I was not the one who raised the subject of Sanchez here. And what happens to the two IS tied, at least so far as the cap is concerned. Also there have been mentions made here of combo trades involving both. The rest of your post is worthless speculation and undeserved attacks on my post as propaganda. Ftr I am very mindful of the no hijacking threads rule and do my best to adhere to it.
I guess I didn't specify in my previous posts -- I've also been operating under the assumption of what flajetfan said.
yes it can be done, the team interested in revis will ask and be granted permission to speak to him they will work out a handshake agreement and than the jets will work out compensation. its pretty standard really
If I'm an opposing GM, I wouldn't offer much of anything - if he walks after 2013, I can not only sign him then, but also see how his surgically repaired knee has held up for a season. For every successful return after an ACL injury, there are failures, and there is no way to determine how Revis will do. Peoples' bodies react differently to these things. It really couldn't be much wose of a situation - if the league knows that the Jets have to trade Revis or risk losing him after the season, who will be talked into taking him, with an untested knee, a year early? And for the compensation that a player of his talent and stature would deserve, under different circumstances...
You and 31 other teams... trading for him means you have a guarantee that he will be on YOUR team, not someone elses. Also, the team will make a deal with him before finalizing the trade anyway, so the only downside is if he busts b/c of the ACL injury. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but ACL injuries are becoming a smaller and smaller deal each year in the NFL, especially in the last 3-4 years.
Yep. The recent success rate of recovery (for an ACL) might be enough to sway teams to roll the dice and bank on Revis returning to prior form.
And you have a year to exclusively negotiate with him before he hits the open market. As Jets fans we need to hope two teams get into a bidding war trying to get him, thinking he's the final piece on a SB window, and go all out to get him. If the price is right we swing him, if not we let him play and I guess when he walks next year (since we don't have the cap room) we get a 3rd?
The 3rd is a sandwich pick between the 3rd and 4th rounds and it happens in the 2015 draft not 2014. Realistically the Jets should be assessing Revis value based on whether they think they can sign him or not, whether they think signing him would provide value against the cap and finally on that sandwich pick in 2015 which is the end value if they can't sign him and let him walk. I think there's a good argument that Revis best value to the Jets is in the form of a 2013 1st round pick. They don't take any chances on the knee or on him wanting to see the market before he signs with anybody and they need every pick they can get their hands on now for the rebuild. Obviously if Revis was 25 and healthy it's a different story, but he's likely to be 30 or thereabouts when the next window opens up and keeping him around at top dollar might well prevent the Jets from getting critical mass elsewhere on the roster.
the primary reason for all those facts is they can't operate an illegal spying/cheating operation anymore. bellicheat has not won a championship since spygate. :shit::beer::lol:
the ideal situaton would be revis and suckchise to an nfc team in exchange for a qb and picks. i'd even roll the dice on alex smith just to get rid of the turnover machine, and bundling him together with revis would be the best way to get picks plus solve our two biggest headaches.
Ah thanks for clarifying on the pick. What happens if he comes back and he's good but not the dominant corner he once was? I thought that might be a bonus, we could sign him for a reasonable amount, but chances are if had a great year following the contract we would hear hints of holdout right? I'm still not sure what I want the Jets do. I don't want them to assign 16 mil a year to Revis, but I don't want to trade Revis for nothing or let him walk. Hopefully some teams get into a bidding war and we can grab a1st and some extras out of it
We're not guaranteed to get a third round compensatory pick for Revis if he leaves in free agency. There will be a trade market for Revis. Teams aren't going to wait and hope that they get to sign him, that he picks their team, etc. They're better off trading for him and negotiating for a year or immediately extending him. That said, I still think we'll be lucky to get a first for him, though the talk on here has rubbed off on me and made me a little more optimistic.
@flajetfan... I guess I should be more clear... I knew it COULD be done. I meant I dunno if anyone will ba able to come up with the money he wants with the cap not going up this year or next.
@mr nyjet... I can state for a fact that the 49ers WILL NOT take Sanchez. The only reason they would even entertain a trade for Alex is that they would like to (but not need to) get his $$$ off the cap. Kaep will only make something like 700K next year (can't be renegotiated yet per the new CBA) and his cap # is only about 1.2 Mil (with bonus). Will there be another team that would take Sanchez on at that price? Dunno...but I kinda doubt it.
lol. sorry. and yea it really is an exclusive market. how many teams have the cap space and are close enough to the super bowl that signing revis makes sense?that is going to be the real hang up trading him.
