no way i want a.smith involved in a revis trade. since they are on the 31 they would have to send 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd in 2014. atleast

I hear your point, but some posters disagree with the premise (i.e., that the Jets cannot afford to keep Revis). For whatever reason, these folks think that Idzik can work some magic to pay Revis and not be in cap hell for years to come.

Is that possible that some magic get worked out and Revis stays a Jet and the team has financial maneuverability? Sure. Is it likely? The majority of the board says, "No." But, IMHO, I think it's too early to rule out any possibility with the Revis (or Sanchez, Keller, etc.) contract(s).

Alex Smith, the 31 and the 63 for Revis and Sanchez. That'd get good value for Revis given the fact that the Jets have no leverage, it'd get Sanchez out of town and it'd get the Jets a stopgap QB for a year or two while they find the next guy. The cap wouldn't like the deal a lot but nothing the Jets are going to do there is going to be painless this year.

Why would SF do that? They can get to the Super Bowl without Revis. And they surely wouldn't kill their cap and roster flexibility for both Revis and Sanchez.

I don't think they would but if Alex Smith is coming to town that's what the deal needs to look like.

Trading a high pick for Smith would be a nightmare development for the Jets. He's not that good and as soon as he got to play with the Jets skill players that would become obvious.

BTW, Smith for Sanchez would be just fine with no Revis and picks in in the deal but that's a deal I'm pretty sure the 49ers wouldn't consider.

Edit: the issue with Sanchez at this point is acid reflux, as in the number of Jets fans out there who get that when he is on the field. It's just not a good situation.

i'm not big on Smith, but i would def consider that trade.

doubt SF would though.. they'd have no pick until the end of 3rd round, and would be downgrading their backup QB, while picking up a large cap hit. I think their motivation in moving Smith is lowering the cap spent on backup QB.

It's worse than that. We have a future HoF CB who wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the game, completely ignoring the fact that positions in football have different values.

What if Nick Mangold said that he wanted to be the highest paid offensive player in the NFL ? Maybe he wouldn't go quite that high and he would exclude the "elite QBs" from the calculation. So, he'd want more than any WR, TE, or LT in the game. Do you do it just because he is one of the best ?

OR, does his position have a value ceiling ? How much is the best Center in the game worth ? More than the best WR ? More than the best TE ? Something even close to scale ?

That's the question with Revis. Yes, he is the best in the NFL at his position. BUT, how much is that position actually worth as a percentage of your salary cap ?

Also, it's great that Revis can cover the other team's #1 all by himself. What about the other 4 receivers that the Ravens were sending out last night on 5 WR sets ? Revis can't cover all of them at one time.

Other than a trade that SF would never make (Smith for Sanchez or the other one you proposed with Revis) there really isn't anything to discuss regarding trades between the two teams. The only thing Alex Smith does is maybe win us an additional game or two next season. But with the extra wins gets us a worse draft pick.

I'd rather roll one more season with Sanchez and hope for a Rich Kotite type implosion so both he and Rex are gone.

I would trade Sanchez for Smith, not Revis.

In any event I don't think the Niners have all that much to give up. Their #1 pick is 31.

Of course, the Jets will and should be willing to give up much to get rid of Sanchez.

    Still, I doubt it happens.

sanchez will not be involved in any trade. if they decide to get him off the team he will be out right cut.

now if we are going with revis to s.f. (speculation of course)
i would tell them give us a 1 and 4 this year and 2nd next year that turns to a 1 if they resign him.
that might be a little steep but since their draft picks are so low they have to give up more.

Sanchez is going to be a Jet next year... I don't think there's any way around that. That sole fact among others is why Tannenbaum no longer has a job.

The Idzik led Jets FO needs to formulate a new plan for QB pretending as if Sanchez isn't around. Sanchez will get moved when financially it makes sense. If he sees the field next year then either a miracle occurred (unlikely), the Jets get hit with the injury bug at QB (more likely), or Idzik fucked up (most likely).

I think SF would be a good trade partner for Cromartie, SF's secondary got torched. Revis will require too much from a team that should've just won the Super Bowl.

why is j.idz fucking up the most likely scenario? there are plenty of where sanchez starting is the right call to make.
example: the jets take a qb in rounds 1 or 2 and go into camp with rookie, mcelroy, sanchez. sanchez shows he is better than mcelroy but the o line is suspect and they dont want to throw the rookie out there. the smart move is to run sanchez out there and let him sink or swim while the rookie gets adjusted to life as a pro

When I say the Jets need to pretend he's not on the roster, I mean literally approach it as if as of today the only QBs on the roster are Tebow and McElroy. If that were the case, how would you handle drafting a rookie then? Personally, I'd still sign a free agent, one who can and should start.

Unless Sanchez shows something significant to prove he's gotten over his past woes, it would be a disaster to go into next season with him at the helm.

the thing is, if they cut him the cap hit is huge. especiallly if you figure the cost of a veteran qb as part of it. so instead of 17 mil its really 18 mil with his replacements cost figured in.thats why i cant buy into the "act like he is not on the roster" plan. drafting a qb and starting sanchez is not a bad way to go if you are just building for 2014. assuming there is a qb available thats worth the pick

Yeah if we are going to trade Revis, why undercut his value by throwing Sanchez in the deal with him. Just to move Sanchez off the team? That seems like a lot of work and a net loss for us.
