If that was remotely possible I'd be okay with that.

When it was said that the Jet's cap situation was dire, this is part of what they were talking about. There are going to be more painful choices coming along before we get ourselves straightened out. Revis is just the beginning of a long, painful road but in the end, the team will be better off for it. What doesn't kill this franchise will make it stronger.

Why would someone give that up when A) he's coming off a torn acl and B) You still have to break the bank for him.

I just assumed he would get an extension this offseason. Now hearing he will never wear a Jets jersey again is sickening to any Jets fan. That is the last thing I wanted to hear right now.

His agents are going to play this out so he's an URFA.

Let's remember, the only way Revis's new team will accept a trade, is with a new contract. No team is going to give up a lot of picks/players for a one year player.

So even trading Revis may be difficult, we have a one year lame duck.

you used to be able to build and keep a team that had your star players. money and not honoring contracts is ruining sports imo

In a passing league you need someone who can pass.

Hopefully the loss of Revis will open the financial flexibility to make THAT happen.

I'm afraid of this scenario. In a sense Revis holds all the cards right now. Someone has to be willing to give him a monster contract AND give up a reasonable amount of draft picks. Some team out there is going to have to be truly and utterly enamored with Revis for this trade to go down.

Imagine we did Revis for Alex Smith and like a 3rd. I would expect that from this organization.

If they are 85% positive or higher that they won't be able to keep him, then it is better to trade him. Not only would we get something in return instead of just letting him walk, but we can also control somewhat where he goes, a.k.a. keep him out of the East, and if possible AFC in general.

we dont need financial flexibility to get a QB we need to draft one who doesn't suck

No team is trading a QB, stud QB at that for anything like nothing at all

    Things are different now.

Revis did nothing wrong, he signed the contract that was offered, he knew his big payday was coming in 2014. He took a risk and it will probably payoff big.

As many others have said, this is the right move. Putting the proposition out there early was the right move also. Now teams that are looking to acquire a free agent CB can also think about what it would take to trade for and sign Darrelle Revis instead. They can do this while they are budgeting for 2013.

Yep, the Jets have zero leverage.

Tanny has left this franchise in ruins, he put it all in and came up snake eyes.

The Patriots have managed to do it with Brady and Wilfork. The difference is they had their priorities set straight and didn't give out ridiculous contracts. They were much more like to take a flyer on someone else's has been then to create a brand overpaid has been.

Honestly I LOVE the Jets more than any other sports team but if we trade him after shelling out money to

    Santonio Holmes
    Mark Sanchez
    David Harris
    Bart Scott
    Calvin Pace

I will question my allegiance to a team who looks like they have no clue on what they're doing if that already isn't obvious

A playoff caliber team that's weak in the secondary just might, if they think he will be the right piece to get them over the hump.
