Same thing every year with this guy the media starts to buy into his agents BS that he is doing this or that and were supposed to believe that he will be better this year because of it. The guy is a bust and needs to be let go!

I noticed that you didn't say that those stat lines are at all acceptable. "Improved" should be relative to a decent QB level. Lets say relative to top 10 QB level

Yea, things like 59.7% completion are still well below average, I was just pointing out that he didn't regress by any means as was indicated

Bottom line is he can't be any worse and can only get better. These fake stories about what a leader he is and how much work he's doing means nothing, either he's learned how to play qb or he hasn't and will be relegated to the bench. I'm not a fan of geno but I hope to god he's figured it out and he can be the qb we all hope for.

    Yes he did.

Not wins or losses, not any individual stats.

In 2013 as a rookie he started 16 games. All of them.

In 2014 as a second year player he started only 13.

    He got benched.

That is the purest form of regression.

To be fair, with the way he was playing he shouldn't have started all 16 games his rookie year, there were just no alternatives that weren't laughable. But your point is right other than that.

nah he just didn't have anyone to take his job in 13. He hasn't regressed he just has always been a poor QB. I think he played better in 14 overall but of course still not very good

Yeah I agree he did play better in 2014 overall but I just can't get over that awful awful 4 game stretch in his second year.

I get playing poorly in your rookie year with no one legit to take his place, but I can't have an awful stretch of games in his second full year.

Well, no one would say anyone who is a Smith Fan should have anything to do with running a football team. No one who knows anything about football, anyway.

This was the most frustrating thing ever.

He wasnt really good at any point, but early in the season he looked like a QB who could have at least been carried to some wins. Unfortunately, the team around him wasnt very good.

But he went into that tailspin and just crashed and burned. Hopefully with a better Defense/WR's and hopefully an improved OLine, we can see a bit of progress.

what 4 games are y'all talking about? I can only think of 2 truly ugly games in 2014: @ SD and home vs. Buffalo. Other than that, I mean, he had some ups and downs but no real meltdowns.

and not to make an excuse but Buffalo's defense made a lot of quarterbacks look awful last year.

in 2013 is when Smith had that truly awful 4 game november stretch

Sorry but I saw a qb that made the same mistakes game after game...poor reads and choices. That he only made the same mistakes again after his first yr only makes the point that he has not progressed. He missed wide open receivers and through into double coverage forced the ball where it should not have been.

But geno people will blame that on the team around him. Sorry but I want a QB that makes those around him better not one where people are looking for excuses for his play and blaming other players. If you ran Sanchez out of town for his play Geno should be too because he is Sanchez 2.0

Sanchez got 4 years becauae he was a bad qb on a good team. A more raw prospect like geno needs more than 2 years. We knew that when he was drafted. If he doesn't progress to average this year, than it will be time to move on, but right now, with limited prospects coming out every year and less options available in free agency, it makes sense to be absolutely sure before cutting bait.

Who said they did or should? But, then again, the current coaching staff is, so I guess you don't think the current coaching staff should have anything to do with running a football team?

All I'm saying is that the coaches know more about football and their own players than you (or anyone else on this board) do and I'm sure they'll play the best QB.

But if you know more than them, then become the Jets coach and fix all the problems that you think you have the answers for.

so then what is the limit 4 yrs of watching the same mistakes again and again with no growth? I am really curious what is the average fans limit. What is it going to be this yr the coaches, or the receivers fault?
They seem to be perfectly good scape goats for Geno the teflon QB.
Sorry two yrs of the same stupid mistakes is enough he has shown no growth....
I really hope Ryan F steps up and starts because Geno actually makes me physically ill the way he plays

Hope you're right. I usually like reading optimistic articles about my team, but even I'm starting to get tired of all of the hype about this Jets team....just bring on the games already! We won't know anything, of course, until we see them on the field against other NFL teams. Even preseason games will tell us something, just seeing them out there competing against other 1st teamers...why is the season starting later this year? Doesn't training camp usually start mid July, and the HOF game July 31? Now that game is about a week later...

hoping for fitz to all of a sudden be a play off caliber qb after ten sesons of not being one is as futile as you think hoping for geno to turn a corner is.
that said, geno has reached his trial limit, a second regime with no stock in him is giving him a chance, he either does it or they try hard to make sure he is not needed on next years roster.
all this angst about him playing is pretty silly when you look at it objectively.
