    I agree with this post.

BUT!!!!!! One glaring thing I cannot stand is the prevent soft coverage D we play anytime we get a big lead.

No excuse for Harrington throwing, what, 198 yards in the 4th qtr?

Inexcusable, the schemes we use on D with the lead is just retarded. Your blitzing and applying pressure......why stop?

Now, that thats out of the way. We as Jets fans need to get a grip back on reality.

Are we better than the general consensus during the offseason? DEFINITELY

Are we in a rebuilding mode? DEFINITELY

    Result of our schedule? PROBABLY

I'm the kind of fan who expects us to win games. No matter who, but at the same time I know well enough the many factors that determine a teams success. the answers dont lie in the records or rankings.

I think we just need to enjoy the fact our team is establishing an identity as a team who can play with anyone. people who went from expecting 4 wins are now on the bandwaggon expecting 8 wins.

so naturally as jets fans when the first losing streak or close win starts. were back to calling ourselves bums and throwing out scapegoats to satisfy ourselves instead of realizing, THIS IS A PROCESS.

have fun and toast to my jets fans, who know and appreciate the sport

This is the BEST win a team in the NFL could have. The coach just needs to tell the team. "Hey, we were lucky we won. We really need to work on this, this, and this.. You can not be complacent because we will lose the next game we play like that.

I attribute this to a young coaching staff. They get the lead, want the win, and start the prevent D. They will learn. And once they get more talent on D, there will be a big difference on how they play with the lead, IMO. I agree with you, but this CS learns pretty quick, just have to be patient through the growing pains I think.

Hey, I'm not saying there weren't things the team and CS did wrong. I fully expected this inexperienced coaching staff to make some mistakes... they are a work in progress as much as the team is.

What I am saying is that while we go through this progession, take the time to enjoy when we win a game. Let's see if Mangini learned something yesterday about playing defense with a lead. One thing we did learn is that he got the team ready to play following a devastating, embarrassing defeat. That's a good thing , the sort of thing that people who are complaining seem to overlook.

It's just as important to look for the positives, as well as the negatives. And heck, no matter how ugly, a win is a win, and it will always bring a smile to me face. Um.... I also won some $ on that game!

And on these points I will agree. Yes, it was very nice to win. However, the fact that we were the dominant team for 3 quarters, and in the fourth, we just allowed Miami to do everything in their power to bring it home.

If Mare didn't miss his FG, that game goes to overtime. OVERTIME?!?!

We were up TWENTY THREE. That's a blowout. Not a blowout of Jacksonville proportions, but a blowout all the same. In 9 minutes, we totally collapsed and sat on our lead.

It wasn't just the defense either. The offense didn't bother staying on the field during the fourth quarter. Even bad teams are going to find a way to score if they are always on the field late.

Yes, there were positives to look at. Leon improves every week. Taylor didn't get through too many times. Chad shows he is tough as nails (come on, did anyone even flinch when Taylor put that uncalled late hit on him? I haven't been this comfortable with Chad taking hits in over 3 years.) Coles is a monster. The halftime adjustments are consistently good every week. Mangini had the team come back from a very tough loss. The list is fairly long.

However, that prevent defense is the big problem. We know our running game is poor. We know our run D is poor. We know our corners are crappy. These are givens. Fine, no one can complain. But when you have a large lead, and you go prevent in the fourth, rather than continue to be aggressive like you did for 3 quarters, it is frustrating to watch. Seeing Miller 3 yards off his man is, IMO, MUCH more frustrating than seeing him take a PI flag for being all over his man.

Mangini has a ferocious hunger to pounce on teams. He needs to learn to carry that into the late part of the game. That's what I like about college football. If a team is up 68-0 with 4:00 left in the fourth, they are still gunning for a 75-0 final. Never let up. This isn't baseball where you don't steal second in the 8th up 10. This is football. Make the statement.

Yeah, you heard me. Almost TWO HUNDRED PASSING YARDS IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.

    JOEY HARRINGTON.

What game were YOU watching? Our DEFENSE pulled through and won us the game? For serious?

Our DEFENSE almost blew a SEVENTEEN point lead in NINE MINUTES!

My point, and I am pretty sure I made it clearly enough to anyone with any sense, was that we made Joey Harrington LOOK like Elway. In no state of the universe should that EVER happen.

I'm inclined to say that in the end Miami choked. Our defense dodged a bullet in the 4th quarter. I'm not sure how many times I can watch this team put the defense on the field with 2 min to play and try to hold on to a lead without my having a coronary. I'm too young for freaking coronaries.

I can't even properly articulate my displeasure with the defense at this point. Gutless, heartless doesn't even begin to tell the story. It's like being treated to a defensive version of the kneel down before the FG in Pittsburgh every week. Just disgusting

I am very happy we won, I did not think we would be involved in this many entertaining games all year. I have to admit I am dissapointed in our defense, but I absolutely love Shotts running the O. its very exciting when we have the ball. the defense is missing some pieces and that is okay as long as our FO is working to change that.

I am tempted to agree with a previous comment about this being a moral loss. We didn't win this game. The Dolphins lost it. I'd hate to see what would have happened if they had more time. Take out the 'W' and put an 'S' in the ole W/L column - for Shame.

Trouble was the defensive game plan in the 4th. We didn't blitz agressively and we let them march down the field. The CS thought there wasn't enough time for a comeback, but there was. If our O had executed at all there wouldn't have been time.

Chad freakin Pennington threw for 200 yards in the fourth quarter against the freakin 1 year removed from the SB Pats in game 2. Chad Freakin 2 surgery noodle arm Pennington. Did you see that pathetic D with Richard Seymour, Wolfork and the rest of those clowns give up a 17 points to the Jets in like 10 minutes.

It's the NFL, get used to it. It's a game of momentum and change unless you have a dominating elite team. We don't we have a very average group on both sides of the ball and they are beating the teams that they are equal to and lossing to teams that are better than us. It's really that simple.

I don't think anyone would be bothered if this was a one off. It's the fact that every single game we've sat back and watched our opponent walk downfield at whatever rate they like in the fourth quarter that bothers people.

There is this misconception that we stopped blitzing etc...some might want to go back and look at the tape...I just did.

Boy oh boy..we were blitzing alright...especially on the drive that cut it to 20-10. We blitzed every play. On one play, Rhodes goes streaking to the line of scrimmage....the ball is snapped and then he just stops. He starts to backup in to position and the ball is thrown over his head for a big gain down the middle.

This wasnt because we went in to a shell on defense. Even with the blitzing, there was no pressure. I expect Martz to look at this game film and say "yeah...Saban knew he could run all day long..but thats just falling in to their trap of slowing the game down and keeping them in it. They cant get to the qb with Miami's offensive line sending 5..and 6 guys".

This had nothing..nothing to do with going in to a shell. It was much more alarming than that.

Great win...love being 3-3. With that said, sorry, Im not going to give the coaching staff a pass on what has become a week in week out disgrace in the final quarters of games..win or lose.

Pats, Indy and Jax, though it was irrelevant by q4 at Jax. We should have been home and dry on Tennessee (up 16), Buffalo (up 15) and Miami (up 17) but all three scored enough q4 points to be in possession with a realistic chance to tie/win at the end of regulation. How can that not be a concern?
