The Mud bowl is on ESPN2 tonight at midnight. I was to young to experience this and have been able to avoid all highlights of it in my life and tonight I will continue to pretend it never happened. Ignorance is bliss.
Except for a couple of plays the Jets held their own, it's not like they got killed. The game was 0-0 at the half, Miami had one TD drive that should have ended with a fumble if I remember right, but it wasn't ruled a fumble, they went on to score. Then the Todd INT was the other TD.
respectfully, i believe the game on tonite at midnight is the 86 season browns-jets divisional round game. they wouldn't show the mudbowl on ESPN. jil
Yup. He was the Mangini of his time, but from the offensive side of the ball. They knew he'd be good but thought to be too young. Steinberg spoke with Bill Walsh and ended up with Bruce Coslet, also from the Walsh tree. They also talked to George Perles, the Michigan State coach at the time, and went with Coslet. The Eagles game Big Blocker was referring to was at the end of the 1987 season, also a home Saturday afternoon game. The book written by Joe Klecko and Joe Fields ("Nose to Nose") talks about that game and the crowd chanting "Joe Must Go". Somehow he hung on two more years, really he was toast after the Cleveland playoff game.
it is absolutely positively the Mud bowl #1 oh the humiliation..knowing that smirking jut jawed scumbag shula cheated i put the 86 Cleve game at #2 because we were ahead and better and the gastineau penalty was just life draining. #3 denver 98 we had them dead to rights that day too #4 the fake spike started spiral of losses and fired pete carroll #5 how about NEP 56 NYJ 3, they put the game on their tickets last year in NE honorable mention we lose in DET in 97, leon johnson tries the option pass and we miss the PO heres an oldie. 1975 MIA 43 NYJ 0 at shea no less. we came off a 6 or 7 game win streak in 74 and may have been favored to win this game. it helped kickoff an 8 game losing streak and was the beginning of the end foe joe willie. i remember vaguely some pregame hype and the scene afterwards was like a funeral. a dark dingy day. weird how you remember..
As much as I try to erase all the bad seasons and games from my memory the AFC Championship against denver just won't go away. Blast!
if anyone watches the game tonite on ESPN2.....i believe the browns special teams coach is....... cowher jil
The 86-87 Jets vs Cleveland game was an emotional roller coaster I will never forget. I was in my teens and really began becoming a diehard Jets fan. Being up in that game was great, then the wheels fell off. I began attending Jets games on a regular basis in 1997. The 1998 Denver loss was softened by lots of alcohol. Although it still stings. This season's end came during the Seattle game. Didn't hurt as much as the playoff losses because most of us saw the telling signs of a lost season weeks earlier. Like one poster stated earlier, these experiences will make a Super Bowl win feel incredibly good, or at least I'm assuming that since I haven't been privy to that yet. So Mike T, Woody and coach to be, we are counting on you. Look at the list of the coaches fallen in the past and DO NOT make the same mistakes. Learn from the history or you will doom all of us to repeat it.
The on the field heartaches speak for themselves. But the draft blunders are really overdone..and only get highlighted b/c the national media drools over jet fans reactions...whom's reaction frankly arent much different than other fans...except that there are many more jet fans at any given draft.
