it's without question, a huge success. to say otherwise if foolish. Anyone comparing Revis to Dee is WRONG. Anyone saying we'd have taken Shel at 9 has NO EVIDENCE of that whatsoever and is pulling shit from their ass. FACT: Jets took Sheldon with the Revis pick. THIS CAN NOT BE DISPUTED! FACT: Jets saved at least 10M by not signing MeVi$. And future egregious contracts demands and the headache that comes with that douche. FACT: Jets will get a 3rd or 4th round pick this year for me-who. FACT: Jets will be paying rookie contracts to these new guys from the deal. Anyone saying other wise is full of shit. Revis got his doe and his team shit the bed. Good fucking riddance.
We got the best of the deal in my opinion. Revis wan't fully recovered from the surgery in '13 so we would not have had vintage Revis, we would have had a slowed down, still-recovering version. And he would have been gone for 14 cuz we weren't paying 16M for his services. Now we have an good player on his rookie contract for three more years (at least), around 12M in additional cap room and a third or fourth rounder this year that could (or could not) be a good player but will in any event be an inexpensive player. The jury is still out on the final judgement. We have to see how the players we got for him turn out, both the rookies and the additional cap room guys and we have to see how the rest of Revis' career plays out. Does he still have it or did we trade him at a good time? Time will tell - in a couple of years.
1. If Jets didn't trade Revis away, would they pick Richardson with #9? WHO THE HELL KNOWS? How would YOU know? Are you working inside Jets draft room? If not, do not spread this bullshit either. You have absolutely no ground whatsoever to support this bullshit. 2. Premier presence up front vs premier presence at the back four? It's not even a fair question. Premier presence up front always, ALWAYS trumps the deal. Hell - I don't even think Antwan Barnes is anything special, but this DL made him look like a sack specialist. Calvin Pace picked up his first ever 10+ sack in a season behind this DL. Need I go on? When did Revis allow that kind of elevated production from other positions? And sure, there was Wilkerson and Harrison too, but Richardson did help out his LBs - and he helped A LOT. 3. And Jets are off the hook for his exorbitant salary demands AND his continual hold-out threat. Revis jock holders always ignore these two facts. 4. Again, fact: Richardson was drafted with the pick Jets acquired from Revis trade. Dispute that first before you shoot off your bullshit.
The Jets got the better of this trade and its not even close. Richardson might be the best player from the 2013 draft and he will only get better and is on a rookie contract. Milliner improved tremendously and may still end up being one of the better corners from he 2013 draft. Most importantly, the Jets saved $16 million in cap money a season. Revis is not the player he was in 2009-10 and is so ridiculously overpaid that there is a question as to whether the Bucs will cut him. The Jets rid themselves of one of the most selfish players in NFL history and now avoid the perennial holdout threats. This is not even a debate. Plus the Jets have another draft pick coming. The Revis trade is the gift that keeps on giving and will be that way for years to come.
can someone give me a cliffs notes on this thread. i pretty much avoided it and now really dont want to go back and read through it all. so a cliffs notes would be helpful to decide if this thread is worth reading.
How did Revis trade work out? Gud, Rex genius. Too early, let's see 3rd round pick. Gud, rich guy CB bad. Too early, Jets wood taken Richardson beast if keep Revis. Woody bad. Revis leavin anyway. Better than think, Jets wood taken Richardson beast no matter what but Richardson beast. Milliner, not. All on him, Richardson beast not matter. Smith baaaad, trade not matter, all on him. Revis hostage crisis done, good trade. Bucs happy? Bucs screwed. Stop with Richardson talk, Jets wuz passing up BPA for him if Revis still here. Revis haterz gunna hate. Richardson not a Jet without trade. With Revis Jets not lose big last year. (Bucs?) Obvious stuff from Ajax. Bucs gonna do crazy things now. Woody good. Lovie lovie Revis. Studz r gud. Obvious stuff from Sec 336. Richardson DROY candidate, Revis $4M a win for Bucs. Revis redux plz? Revis suckz. Too bad we didn't torture Revis worse. All gud. Rex >< genius. Obvious stuff from Penny Royal10. GTFOH doubters! Zen football FTW. Front > back. (Obvious stuff from Zach.) Richardson very good, Revis hostage situation over. GTFOH doubters! Wut?
They've said Richardson & Milliner were the top guys on their board. So let's assume they would've taken Richardson at 9 had they kept Revis. The question is, which would you rather: Revis & Richardson Milliner, Richardson, 3rd round pick this year & ~$10 mil in FA savings to go after hopefully an offensive weapon If this team had more holes filled at the skill positions and was closer to SB contention this year, I'd say the trade would've been a mistake. But they have a chance to fill a few spots with the money that would've gone to Revis and hopefully Milliner proves the dropoff from Revis to him isn't season altering.
Again, Lovie Smith has made it clear that he has "big plans" for Revis. If you think he is getting cut, you are wrong.
So far, it was a good move. Revis still hasn't recovered 100% from his injury. He was a stubborn negotiator and would have taken up a HUGE amount of cap space on the Jets. Milner looked very strong at the end of the season, although he'll probably never be as good as Revis in his prime.
He could not be offered a renewal with the Bucs and end up as a FA. If so he won't get anywhere near 16 mil per. Love to re-sign him but doubtful he'd come back here. Too much water under the bridge between Woody and the Revis team. It wouldn't be a shocker if he signed with a team like the Saints. They know how good he is with Rex's brother as DC there.
I think the fact that we picked up Richardson and Milliner as a package in the first round that could be the foundation of a young talented defense for years to come, combined with the fact we are not paying a CB $16 mil and also the third round pick (high pick by the way) we very slightly ahead. Once we pick the third round pick and that pick is a quality contributor to make an impact in a few games next year we are the winners for sure. I have friends that are Bucs fans that are starting to feel they lost on it as well.
I just thought of the Saints as a possible landing spot. Because I don't think the Bucs want to pay him 16 mil. I have heard them say they wanted him on the team. And they do have a good experienced D coach now with Lovie Smith. There's a good chance the Saints will franchise Jimmy Graham so they will get a big cap hit with that. So if they do have cap problems he might not fit in financially with them. We all know that Belichick does not believe in overpaying for talent. But he might be willing if it's Revis. And at the key position of CB. He did pay a few key players over the years like Richard Seymour. And maybe not re-sign Talib. A guy like Revis could really make New England very tough on defense. Or maybe they'd sign both of them. But no way Revis gets 16 mil with them. Maybe 8-10.
How about this. Ask TB if they would trade Revis for Sheldon and Milliner. Its a no brainer. A huge win for the Jets.
It's because there were several articles detailing the bad blood between Woody and Revis. Revis was greedy and had held the Jets hostage 2x before. Woody had had enough, and I don't blame him. Eff Revis.
Too early to determine. Revis wanted too much money, he was a luxury that the Jets couldn't afford. Milliner showed promising signs near the end of the year. If he continues in that direction it most definitely will be worth it. Even if he only ever amounts to half or 3/4 the guy Revis is, it will be worth it for half the price, and even cheaper over these next few years. Plus an extra early 3rd is sweet in this draft. I do jizz in my pants over the idea of Revis + Richardson together, though. It matters naught if we can't get good QB and WR play.
