tell me what it is you think leonard and smith aren't doing well. i'm curious. what is it you think they should be doing better? this is a very vague statement, and truth be told i had to restrain myself from jumping all over the post.... but you may have reasons that aren't as .... well, silly as the OP.
u people really need to relax... its like someone posted earlier... every team has its flaws... were not gonna be able to correct everything, but if we play to our identity we will be OK... the tackling we saw on sunday was not consistent with our identity... if rex can fix that which i think he will.. we will split these next two games and go on a nice run down the stretch... our o-line should get better as the season goes on... o-line schemes are probably the most complicated part of football, and having no off-season really hurt us there the most... have faith guys rex is a winner and will not tolerate the shit play for much longer
I don't care how good your safeties are, if the QB is able to stand there long enough to have a 3-course meal eventually SOMEBODY is going to get open. Leonard and Smith are fine. The Pass Rush is a problem.
The real negligence on the Jets part is relying on Rex to be innovational on defense in every single play. It's absolutely impossible to do that. We do not have the personel who organically can create a pass rush on ability alone, we need gimmicks and confusion to get to the QB. It seems, at times, Rex & Co. blow their wad on play calls and then run out of ideas in game.
I wouldnt call any of these MAJOR problems, since we've been to 2 AFCCG's, won 4 playoff games, and gone 26-15 overall under Rex ... including 6-3 against the 3 best QB's in our conference (ok ... 5.5-3). Are they issues? ... YES. But every team has issues to overcome. I'd be alot more worried if we weren't winning.
Not having a pass rush would definitely identify as a major problem. With Rex's schemes if we had a legit pass rush we would be nearly unbeatable. If Wilkerson progresses nicely over the course of the season and Pace starts becoming the disruptive phenom we all think he should be, then we'll be fine. Right now though, someone needs to step up and people need to start beating their men in one-on-one match ups.
Pace was great the first 2 games. I think our pass rush will only get better as the season goes on. Jamaal Westerman has got to get this shiz together, though. He's been worse than Jason Taylor. At least Taylor could play the run. Westerman can't even get in on running downs.
It all boils down to 4 quarters of football. We had a 10 point lead in the second quarter and it looked like it was going to be an easy day then Sanchez throws a pick in the EZ and we completely fell apart. The only problem with this team is it NEVER plays 4 quarters of football. The skill is there for us to be great....we can just never put it all together for 60 minutes.
