Excuse me, but did you actually watch the game? If not, please don't bother commenting. Your highlight reel comments are a bit too transparent. (And I know you weren't watching, since I know the Mets game was going long after the Yankees ended. I highly doubt you switched over in time to see the play.) 1) Pettitte threw the ball home as soon as it became obvious that the guy was stealing home. Pettitte is a LEFTY, with his back to the runner. ARod did yell out when he saw the play develop. So it was neither of their fault. Taking credit away from the Blue Jays for excellent scouting of Pettitte and flawless execution is like saying the Mets are just lucky to be playing in the NL this year. 2) The Yankees were outplayed from the beginning of the game. They didn't even lose the game on that steal of home. They tied the game in the next half inning again. So that run became null and void. Pettitte was pulled one out into the 8th, after holding the Jays to TWO runs, INCLUDING the steal of home. If that's not a gem, then WTF is? The bats did not hit. Period. That's why the Yankees lost.
7 1/3 1 Earned run is a gem to me...Yes he had a mental lapse on the Hill play, but Hill gets credit. Jeter his 9th error...What the hell else can happen?
The piont is not that it guarantees championships, but at the very least it should guarantee a competitive team...
It should and although it's starting to get late we aren't even out of May yet so they might end up competitive.
See, that's the thing. We're NOT out of it yet. No one wants to understand that, except die-hard Yankees fans. The Wild Card is always up for grabs, since you only really have to beat the worst teams to win it. You can lose every game to the Sox and Mets, if you can beat all the KCs and Tampa Bays. Right now, we can't seem to do that, and obviously, the payroll is not helping. FTC's point that the money being spent is being wasted is fully valid, but your point that this is far from over is even more valid. But something needs to change immediately. Not extra batting practice, or infield practice, or even "team meetings." The first thing that needs to be done is a trade. Someone like Abreu or Damon should be shipped out immediately. Send the message from the top now that this is unacceptable, and if you choose to play like shit, you will be sent to a place like KC to play out the rest of your miserable contract. If that doesn't work, then this team is hopeless. I'd still fire Torre before even making a trade, but at this point, it wouldn't matter much. The entire team is dead. They need a clear message sent, and only shipping a potential All-Star to a terrible team is going to send that message that no one is safe.
I did watch the game, in fact I'm watching it again right now for the second time on Yes replay so spare me your typical drama. The Yankees lost this game because they are playing sloppy baseball... Arod and Pettitte being the biggest culprits last night. Hill didn't steal home because he's Rickey Henderson... he stole home because Andy fell asleep. Whether he's a lefty or not is irrelevant, the point is he didn't even look over at a guy who represented the game winning run at that point... the guy got 5 steps on him before he even knew what was happening!! Even Andy called it "embarrassing".... that was stolen off the pitcher. You can't say he had a brilliant night when he's letting guys take runs from you off mental lapses in a close game. Also Arod should never have fielded that bunt and let Lind go to third... even Posada yelled at him for fielding that ball. You're gonna let Rios come up with the game winning run on 3rd and one out??? With the arms in that outfield??? They should have just let Lind walk home too...
Die hards? Weren't you just sayin you were going to take a vacation from this team and that the Yankees "are beyond help at this point". You're talking double talk Alio...
Somehow I'm still watching though. Yeah, I'm a frigging die-hard. I just want to bitch. Deal with it, or leave. Stop posting retarded shit. You're becoming as bad as others who will remain nameless. -------------------- BTW: If you're going to blame the steal of home and ARod making sure to get the SURE OUT, as the reasons the Yankees lost, then just stop posting. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Was the steal of home a lapse on the Yankees? Yes. Was it also a good play by Toronto? Yes. Was ARod's grab of that bunt a bad play? No. Did it cost the Yankees anyway? Yes. --------------------- While you're watching the replay this morning, why don't you also look at each guy's career batting average in the lineup. Then decide if two miscues on the field were the direct reason the Yankees lost. --------------------- In the AL in 2007, if your pitcher gives up just 2 runs over 8.1 innings, and you lose, it's because you didn't make contact with the ball, or your pen has imploded. See if you can guess which was the reason last night.
Whats sad is we could just take the field that night and wed get a better result than the team thats out there.
New Rule. Everybody must agree with Alio's 1000 word double speaking posts or leave. If you do not agree with them and point out how they are contradicting themselves you will be compared to trolls and you are posting retarded shit. Everybody fall in line. That's how Toronto scored the final two runs of the game... Giving up runs is how you lose games. Read any report on last nights game and they will bring up those two moments as turning points in the game. Arod went for the "sure out" and allowed the game winning run to advance to third with one out. He conceded thirdbase on a play he could have let the ball gone foul. Horrible play, and that's how Toronto scored the game winning run. Which was exactly my point. So it was a good play that ended up costing them the game winning run. Yeah that makes sense LOL!!! The Yankees bats did enough to win the game 2-1... the mental screw ups cost them 2 unnecessary runs.
You're not even worth speaking with anymore. So you'll join one of the nameless on the ignore list. Just keep posting your shit.
Ugh, it's just painful. Sadly, there is still hope. I just don't know how the hell they break out of this rut. These guys can hit as well, or better, than any team in the league. They just aren't getting it done. It makes no sense.
If they were at least trying hard I would say there is hope, but I dont see this team playing hard or with passion and therefore I think this will continue.
Why because I don't agree with you in the rant thread? LOL! Because I'm brining up facts you can't refute no matter how long your posts are? You tell people they're going on the ignore list like it's some kind of punishment... it cracks me up. :breakdance:
See, that's the thing. That's why there needs to be a splash. Like Abreu traded to Kansas City or something. Something that tells the other guys "Hey, you like playing for a contender? Then ACT like it." That's why I've been so in favor of canning Joe. It sends a clear message that this "Coach as Friend" attitude is over with. It's like allowing a kid who is throwing a tantrum in Toys R Us to continue doing so until he gets his way, rather than taking him home empty-handed. Every time you allow it, you make it okay for the next time. At some point, you have to put your foot down.
Sloppy fielding costs Yankees in loss to Blue Jays By PETER ABRAHAM THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: May 29, 2007) TORONTO - The Yankees have been adept at finding ways to lose this season. But what transpired at the Rogers Centre last night was a new low in the search for rock bottom. The Toronto Blue Jays scored two unearned runs, one on a steal of home, and beat the Yankees 3-2. http://www.nyjournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070529/SPORTS01/705290423 Gee what was I thinking saying that sloppy play cost them the loss last night. I guess I didn't watch the game last night and I only watched the higlights!!! I guess me Peter Abraham have no idea about baseball and we should stop pointing out retarded shit. What we should really talk about is historical batting averages.
I didn't want to start a new thread but, to all NYC residents, at Bryant Park tonight starting at 5:30 and ending when the game ends, they're "simulating" Yankee Stadium by playing tonight's game on a big screen, setting up concession stands. Also, Dave Winfield and Tino Martinez will be around signing autographs, kissing babies, and whatever else they do at these things.
