This game has been over for a minute now. I just spent this entire time writing a fucking book in response to FTP, which I can't believe I just did. What a horrible, horrible experience. Anyway, i'm going play some Madden homos. Good game tonight.
I missed most of the game, but I was checking back and forth. Sick stuff. This team is playing better and better. And yeah, that "wall" is a friggin' joke. WTF?! BTW: They are reporting that the Blue Jays are entertaining offers for Roy Halladay. I'd love to add him to our rotation. Imagine him, CC and AJ?
Let's be honest, if the Yankees manage to bring in Halladay, assuming they didn't give up one of these guys to get it done, they'd have to either move Joba back to the pen, or trade Wang. Now if they could manage to trade Wang for Halladay, you'd see a very happy Alio.* Halladay, CC, AJ, Pettitte/Aceves/Hughes/Joba/Coke/Kennedy. That's a freakin' insane rotation over the next few years. And no matter who settles into the rotation, the pen is set up nicely. I better stop daydreaming. I got lucky with CC and Tex. Getting Halladay would be too much magic for even Cashman. Right? *Well, at least for the first 5 minutes. No guarantees after that.
It would be a dream, I agree. But you can't assume they don't give up Joba and Hughes. Sources already said J.P. Ric wanted Joba and Hughes at minimum. The problem dealing with Toronto is that J.P. is a very good GM...plus he knows the Yankees have a tendancy to overpay...to acquire Halladay would take blockbuster talent.
I might consider Joba, but that would be my limit. No way on Hughes, and they wouldn't get any other significant talent for him. Does Halladay have a no-trade? If so, this could get interesting. He's only got a year left I think, and if so, he knows he'll get crazy rich in free agency, so a sign-and-deal would be required, but one would think he'd want to get paid and go to a contender if given the choice.
BNo way is it a good idea to give up Joba. he will eventually be moved back to the pen and be a force. screw that
Again, it comes back to the argument about the value of starting pitching vs. relief work. Joba is more than likely a starter the rest of his career. That's the way it is. And if they were going to put him in the pen again anyway, then you have to trade him for Halladay if you can get away with it. A front-line sure-thing ace is more valuable than any other position in baseball. And we'd have at least 2 (CC and Halladay) 1 who is almost there (AJ) and one with the potential to be (Hughes.) 4 front-line starters means far less reliance on a closer. BTW: Here is an interesting posting on the ESPN.com article about the situation:
If Riccardi did anything other than immediately hang up the phone on that offer he should be fired on the spot.
hahahah You MIGHT consider Joba...hahahahahahhahaa dude are you completely out of your mind?????????????// You MIGHT consider Joba.....How about Joba, Hughes and at LEAST two more solid prospects......lets say Joba, Hughes, Austin Jackson and Montero.........Roy fuckin Halladay and you MIGHT consider Joba???????????????????????????:rofl: This is your worst post ever dude....its Donesque...I only say this because I love you bro...
If Joba was definetly going to remain a starter, then i would do it. I jst think that with all the pen trouble we have had over the years, keeping Joba would be important. The way he pitched out of the pen...a pitcher like that doesn't come along often. As a starter..meh.
Alio and Mangold actually bring up some good points. The Jays aren't going anywhere this year and that's why they're starting to clean house (ie trade Halladay). Ricciardi is a good GM and obviously he won't be easily duped. However maybe Toronto is looking to get Halladay's huge number off their cap and they need a big market team who could pick that up. So we may not have to give up the farm to get Halladay. It sounds like Toronto is in rebuilding mode once again and they may not have as much leverage in terms of what they get in return for him. This reminds me, what did we have to give up to get Clemens from Toronto in '99? I think Gord Ash was their GM then though so it may not be that relevant since they have a different GM now.
