1st place baby!!!!!!!!!! Boston must not be as good as advertised. How do you go (8-0) vs. NYY, but are 1 game behind them?
I know this doesn't matter, but it bothers me a little. One of the headlines on ESPN.com is "BoSox cede first in AL East" ... It's not "Yankees take over first in AL East," but its Boston cede's to Yankees. Cede: to yield or grant
I'd still like another arm for the pen. Hughes has bailed this team out but if another starter gets hurt him or aces is going to have to be stretched. Would Beimel or Grabow cost anything? Cla Meredith cost the Oreo's NOTHING.
knitpicker. We're in first, be happy. In a sense, the Red Sox have given it to us. We only yielded (or granted) them an 8+ game differential.
caused? Oreo's? They had to trade a good hitter for him. Salazar. They didn't have a place for him, but I think the Padres got the better end of that trade.
Salazar sucks. Your "good hitter" is 31 years old with 6 career home runs. He's a career quad A player. I did mistake caused with cost. Long day. I'm stoopid.
Actually, 8. 8 home runs in 133 career ABs. I think Salazar will help San Diego more than Meredith would've.
Guys, I hate ESPN's Boston love affair, but in this case, that headline is true. They did yield the division lead more than the Yankees overtook it. They've beaten us 8 straight times, and we have yet to scrape together one win against them. Just keeping pace with the Yankees would have them at least half a dozen games up right now. Instead, they're stumbling over themselves. They're not getting the hitting or the pitching they were earlier in the year. That's not to take anything away from the Yankees, who are playing really good baseball, but the fact is, we're atop the ALE right now because they're losing a lot more than they should.
The best team in the AL, by far, has finally risen to where it has belonged for the last 3 years. (obviously aimed at Devil) On another note...nobody is writing about the fact that Halladay can opt out at the end of this year with the player agreement currently in place if he is traded. That makes a deal for him unlikely by anybody other than the Yankees probably. Maybe Boston. Someone who could take that chance and still be confident in signing him as Toronto will not let anybody try to sign him to an extension before a deal is complete.
Theres been discussions that any Halladay trade would be contingent on him signing an extension. That is one of the reasons the Jays want an agreement in place 3 days before the deadline.
That's one way to look at it. You could say that mediocre guys like Ellsbury, Wakefield, Green...came back down to where their stat lines should be. Their A players have been bad lately. Youkilis has been slumping, his AVG is down to 303 I haven't heard any headlines about Bay or Pedroia lately either The only one that is playing well, it seems, its Beckett.
