If Chamberlain has to take time off and Wang is gone then that will leave only 3 bonafied starters and Mitre. No matter how you look at it we will need another. Girardi and Cashman seem intent on leaving Hughes in the BP for the remainder of the year. Aceves could start but that takes away one of the best BP weapons we have. A guy who can go long or short. And what if somebody gets hurt? Igawa is the only one ready in the minors to be brought up.

If Marte comes back and is effective, I'd say let Aceves start. He's been solid when called upon and I think he's starter material.

Yankees faced him once and hit him hard.

They should start stretching Hughes out in the majors, if possible, and flip flop his role with Joba's. If they were going to do that, they'd probably need to start thinking about it sooner rather than later.

If they're slating Joba for 140-ish innings, he's got 45-ish innings left. That's anywhere between 5 and nine starts... although... I'm curious how they are calculating the workload. I have to imagine it's not just innings, but also how hard he worked in those innings. Since Joba's been inefficient and inconsistent this year, I'd imagine he's thrown more pitches than the average pitcher who has thrown 95 innings. They might already have him at what would otherwise be 120 innings.

As for who else is in the minors aside from Igawa, I would think Nova and McAllister could both get a call if the Yanks need a starter. Nova's done well for Trenton and Scranton this year (walks a lot of guys, though), and McAllister has been tearing it up in Trenton.

Girardi said this week he expects Hughes to stay in the pen for the rest of the year. Things can change but it doesn't appear they will start anything anytime soon to change it.

Joba looks strong with 4 K's through 4 so far.

Helluva recovery by Joba there. Second and third 1 out, 2 Ks to get out of trouble.

    Awesome.

And this Anderson dude has some FILTHY stuff.

Anderson must be the worst fielding pitcher I've ever seen.

He's also bonkers. Do you see this stuff he's doing in the dugout? I mean, I get superstition, but this guys is buggin' out.

Why is Joba even pitching the 8th? There's no reason to have him even come out. If you're serious about limiting his innings, tonight was the night to pull him an inning too early.

Yeah, no reason at all for him to be out there for the 8th. Aceves and Mo are rested, 4-1 lead

McAllister got shut down homie. He's got dead arm. Cash already doesn't want to rush Nova either.

Did anyone else's heart stop when that ball was high and far to right?
