The time before last I visited my friend in Brooklyn, the same thing happened. Rain storm, Yankees game delayed a few hours, etc. The difference is that time it was pouring. Memorable drive home. Anyway, Sterling called the Posada double with his home run call. He was all excited, too, like Posada hit one 500 feet.
Wang is almost certainly gone for the year. Chamberlain is still on an innings count and Mitre is nobody's answer to anything. They need another starter. I wonder who it will be. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/11979760
Personally, I want Hughes back in the rotation. Move Joba back to the pen for a while to get his innings count under control. (Both of those moves should be fun as people demand that both just stay in the pen.) Hopefully Mitre can be an effective back-of-rotation guy. If not, it might be time to start considering giving Coke or Aceves a legit shot at starting. I think Mitre looked okay the other day though. He definitely deserves a couple more starts to see what he's got. Hopefully the news about Marte is as good as it sounds. He still isn't coming back soon, but if we can get him back by mid-August, that should help out the pen a lot, which makes it easier to transition one of those guys into the rotation. The last thing I want to see is Igawa making his way north again. As for Wang, that's actually good news to me. Obviously it will suck a lot if he has to go to Dr. Andrews because that's never good, but it does mean that his body was a mess this year. That makes me feel better in terms of his future. If his performance was a direct result of a plethora of injuries, then once healthy, he can come back and be a quality starter again.
What a streak. I hope to be back on a computer soon, moved out...Anyway, I wouldn't mind acquiring Ian Snell since Pitt is in complete shambles, Jarrod Washburn is a wild card because Seattle is still "in it." What is Hughes' ERA as a reliever this year?
If your math were right it would be one or the other definitively. Seriously though, let's not get on the magic number track yet. There's a lot of baseball left.
A hot team against a very hot pitcher. The New York Yankees are the hottest team in the majors, but if they want to win an eighth straight game Friday, they'll have to go through perhaps the league's hottest pitcher. Oakland rookie Brett Anderson has been all but untouchable lately, and it would be especially impressive if he could keep his run going at Yankee Stadium as the Athletics and Yankees continue their four-game set. New York (58-37) has surged 2 1/2 games ahead of second-place Boston in the AL East thanks to its 20-5 record in the last month, and the team's second seven-game winning streak over that span was secured with a 6-3 victory in Thursday's series opener. The latest streak has coincided with the start of the Yankees' 10-game homestand, and they're now 33-16 at their new ballpark. Mark Teixeira homered and drove in three runs in the most recent victory. "We expect to win every night," said Teixeira, who has three homers and seven RBIs during the win streak. Anderson, however, already has proved he can handle a difficult road atmosphere, as his two-hit shutout of Boston at Fenway Park on July 6 began his current streak of 21 consecutive scoreless innings. He has allowed a total of seven hits during that stretch. The 21-year-old left-hander was pulled from his July 12 start at Tampa Bay after four innings due to back stiffness, but the All-Star break appeared to get him healthy. Anderson took a perfect game into the seventh inning Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels before finishing with two hits allowed without a walk in eight innings, although the A's lost 1-0 in 10 innings. "It was one of the best starts I've seen," A's manager Bob Geren told his team's official Web site. "He was outstanding in Boston, and was equally good, if not better, today. He had all his pitches going and made real good pitch selection." ============= Brett Anderson's last four starts: vs. Detroit: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 7 K. Win at Fenway: 9 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. Win @TB: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K vs. Anaheim: 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K. ND. Perfect game through 6.2.
Have we ever faced him before? That seems to be the gauge of whether we can hit a team or not.Doesnt matter what kind of stuff they have, or their recent success. All that matters is if we've faced them and have a quality scouting report.
Two articles I have read in the last couple of days link the Yankees to Jarrod Washburn. I don't know where it is coming from but he would certainly be a great back of the rotation starter the way he is pitching this year. Even a front of the rotation starter. In 18 starts his ERA is 2.71 with a WHIP of 1.06.
I wanted Washburn last year, but now? At some point we're going to have too many starters, and getting Washburn means giving up prospects. I say stick with what we've got.
Yeah..I don't know. They say they really aren't interested in Halladay and I think everybody sees a need for another starter so I'm not sure what they will do,
Well, it's not that they're not interested in Halladay, they just don't want to spend the asking price. I don't really think we need another starter though. Especially to have to keep giving up prospects to get them. Halladay is one thing, but Washburn is not Halladay.
We were looking at washburn at the deadline last year. Somebody in the scouting dept. w/ pull must like him. I'm not sure where he'd fit in.
