Robinson Cano in the last seven days:

    .389 BA/.421 OBP/.611 SLG/1.032 OPS/148 OPS+

If that's being a complete failure, I'll take it.

Granted, today's 3-0 bunt attempt made him look like a moron to the Nth degree, but he's been hitting the ball well lately. He hasn't been driving in any runs, but you can't control where the balls fall all the time. He's had his chances and hit some lasers at people.

Yankees fans should be doing cartwheels that the MFYs are only 1 game out on July 4 despite dropping the first 8 to the Sox.

I just played the most EPIC MVP 2005 game of my life.

22 innings of shutout baseball ending in a 1-0 win with a Matsui solo shot.

Best gaming experience of my life. INTENSE!

Give me a break Cappy. He's 0 for his last 20 with RISP. He's got one RBI in his last 13 games, which was a solo home run. He grounds out all the frigging time with runners on now. And that isn't just my eyes telling me that.

Here's some interesting splits; for the year, with the bases empty, he's hitting .337. With runners on, he's hitting .245. When runners are in scoring position, he's hitting .198.

And since I know you devalue average, I went to the effort of looking for his OPS too.

    Bases empty: .939
    With RISP: .548

He's grounded into 84 DPs this year. The Yankees have played 80 games. He averages more than one double-play a game.

He's the number 5 hitter who is supposed to be protecting ARod. Instead, Alex was IBB'd twice yesterday to allow Cano to fail.

That bunt bullshit was just icing on the cake.

I'd say that's more telling of those Fenway Fails than it is of our team.

EDIT- You knucklehead- 84 double plays in his entire career! 12 this year. hahaha I read that and was thinking "that would be the craziest stat in the history of sports if it was true. hahahah

You're missing the point. You said "Cano has been a complete failure as of late." I'm saying he's been pretty good lately. The past seven days show him to be better than he has been for the season. So now is a pretty strange time to start complaining about it. The RISP thing tends to work itself out. Don't believe me? Look at the Yankees this year. They started off hitting well with RISP, then sucked, then were awesome again, then sucked again, then were awesome again. Was that because they remembered then forgot then remembered and forgot and remembered how to be clutch? Or is it more a function of a team who gets a lot of runners on base? The hits with RISP will come. He's been awful lately with RISP, but he can't control who is or is not on base when he's hitting. He also can't control whether line drives go right at people or not.

Um, yeah... that's just not true.

That misses the point, too. If he continues to hit the ball as he has in the past week or so, the hits (and RBI) will come. I guarantee it.

F**king stupid baseball-reference.com asswipe site. That shit is near illegible. Anyway, seriously, my big bad on misreading the stat.

Whatever anyway. Doesn't change the fact that he's been atrocious over his past twenty opportunities with RISP.

I can't stand the whole "he's been good of late, look at his numbers" crap. The guy is a complete and utter failure with runners in scoring position over the past 13 games. Sure, he'll break out of his slump. That doesn't mean he doesn't completely suck right now.

Wang will be a very good pitcher again once he stops giving up runs too. That is, if Hughes doesn't blow him out of the water now. :metal:

We're not talking about guys without talent. Everyone on this team, even Brett Gardner, has real MLB talent. Every single offensive player on this team will hit if given enough opportunities. Every pitcher will throw a gem if you put them out there enough. We're not talking about lower-tier talent here.

But right now, Swisher and Cano are incredibly weak spots in our lineup when we're in a position to score. Harping on how they're expected to perform later doesn't change their craptastic failures right now.

As a side note, it's nice for ARod to finally be getting some vindication. I don't recall the stat Kay mentioned the other day, but something like 10 of his homers have come with the score within 2. So much for the whole "he only compiles and doesn't hit when it counts" argument.

Who cares about Cano right now. The bigger issue should be, what the Fuck are we going to do with Hughes at this point. Rotation again?
