its the right move if you have a reasonable chance at making it....he would have been out by a mile...plus one swing by tex and its 4-2. Down 4, we've already made a stupid out at 3rd....not a good move IMO
That's not the point. It's the right move to be aggressive there. Force the LF to make a good throw. If you're out, so be it, you get 3-4-5 leading off the next inning. If you make it, you're in scoring position.
so everytime you hit the ball to left you should go for second if theres two out and the 3-4-5 coming up? NO. Save a circus slide, he had no chance at getting to second base safely.....you dont need to be at second with Tex coming up when one swing gets you back in the game....
Sigh. No, not "every time you hit the ball to left." But when you hit it down the line like that, yes. The way balls bounce down there, it's a 50/50 call. In that situation, you run aggressively. And counting on Tex to hit a HR to get you back into the game is even sillier than trying for second. Was it a risk? Yes. Obviously. But that was a situation where it's okay to take that risk. ETA: And Jesus Christ, people. It's the fifth inning. Might as well just call the game now, huh?
I didn't see where the ball was in play. But I ESPN Gamecast calls the play: R Cano flied into double play, left to second to first, A Rodriguez...WEPA doubled off first." It's hard to follow when the ball is in play on this nonsense. Normally I thought he hit into a DP with runners on base, which would be Classic Cano.
