Yankees designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment. Ransom hit just .190 in 79 at-bats this season. He was jettisoned to make room for right-hander Anthony Claggett. Joe Girardi told the New York Daily News that the move was made in order to protect the bullpen. ?€œWe wanted to make sure we had depth in our bullpen,?€? Girardi said, according to the Daily News. ?€œWe know this is going to be a tough series coming up, teams that really like to work the pitchers, so we wanted to make sure we didn?€™t wear anyone out.?€?
