Heh, I don't even dislike Johnson really. I just didn't like not bringing back either Damon or Matsui to be the DH. I was a Nick Johnson fan the last time he was here. I just can't get on board with a DH that is better at walking than he is at making contact with the ball. Especially when he runs like he took a shit in his pants and yet is hitting second in the lineup.
Where does this idea that, at the top of the lineup, speed is more important than getting on base come from? I don't understand it. And I'm not even sure why you're bringing up the speed in the first place, since Matsui wasn't exactly a speed demon, either (and was becoming just as much of an injury liability). If Johnson was batting fifth, would you feel better about him? Something tells me no. In any case, it is incorrect that Johnson is better at walking than making contact: He walks in 15.7% of his plate appearances. (Matsui is at 10.9%.) He makes contact in 62% of his plate appearances. (Matsui is at 72%.) He gets a hit in 27.2% of his official at bats. (Matsui is at 29.2%) And 22% of the time that he puts the ball in play, it's a line drive (that's good). (Matsui was 19%.) The difference in contact is actually accounted for by the higher frequency of walks.
Arod hit a double off the centerfield wall, then he tried to advance to 3rd on the throw home to try and get Nick Johnson (because he is so damn slow). Johnson was safe and the throw to 3rd to try and get Arod was a overthrown so he scored on the error. Just as well, he barely missed the HR. Ohhh, Fuck. Damn you Pena.
In case anyone who watches the Yankees on tv was wondering, Sterling and Waldman are still intolerable mongoloids who should have been strangled at birth.
so totally not true. I'm a huge fan of our brothers from the tribe. If I could get hooked with a decent bagel or knish around here I'd be all over it.
Price is dirty. 97 FB low and away to lefty AND they have to deal with his breaking ball which starts behind their back.
Good game so far. I was innocuously going to say that CC was throwing BBs, but then I noticed that that would sound like a really lame attempt at a joke, even though that wasn't the intent. But I'll type it anyway, because it's true. And Granderson should have slid there. He could've been seriously hurt. Oh, and for those interested, Gardner is 2/3 with a run scored and a SB. Should've had an RBI on that Granderson play at the plate, too. ETA: He finished the game 2/4 with a walk, two runs scored, two RBI and a SB.
I could have just gotten speeding tickets up the wazoo for the way I just drove home from work to catch the rest of this game, for obvious reasons.
