I think you're right. Girardi went with only 12 pitchers to start the season.

hell make it through 4. If he makes the 4th a short one, maybe 5. 100 pitches is nothing, unless hes getting shelled.

They seem to be still keeping everybody well under 100 this early.

Eh. I don't like what I saw, but it's one bad start. His command is obviously off. His velocity is down (which I don't like), and his curve didn't look like that nasty hook of last year (I really don't like that).

I'm willing to chalk this up to colder weather (again) after a rough commute from last night's game, and the general inconsistency we can expect from a really young pitcher.

But I have to admit that I'm getting anxious to see the Hughes from ST, the one who was throwing 93-94 and hitting his spots. Maybe he's trying to be too fine and holding back instead of letting it rip... I don't know.

I just hope there's not something wrong with him.

He is probably one more base runner from being pulled.

  9. I think it's gonna be a long year boys. Our young pitching is gonna need a year to develop..

All i ask is that we dont have to witness another boston WS.

hahaha.....dude, your giving up already. You cant be serious! That was one sub par ( not even bad) start from Hughes after his great start last week. Comon now.

  11. Well keep in mind we are playing the royals...

My point is..I think we're gonna see alot of inconsistencies from our PS. Hughes will look great like he did last week and crappy like he did today...same w/ Kennedy who'll likely bounce back in his next start.

WHat it equates out to is a wildcard at best type year...if there's any mercy from the baseball gods...Boston fizzles out.

It was bad...real bad...3 innings, 6 hits, 4 walks and 87 pitches. It's remarkable he only gave up 3 runs.

Boston doesn't look any better than we do. They won today but they were swept by Toronto. That may be the team to worry about if their pitching stays healthy this year.

I don't see the point in drawing any definitively negative conclusions about the Yankees' fate on April 8th. Let's see where they are on May 15th or so.

Pitchers have bad games. Hitters have bad games. They tend to have more of them when they're playing a cold day game after traveling a third of the way across the country after a night game while the opposing team had an off day.

The only thing I really didn't like today was Hughes' velocity. Everything else I'm willing to chalk up to the conditions of this game.

we were counting them out at the all-star break last year. They had a sub.500 record for a good part of the first 3 months. Then what....

were 4-4, and our offense hasnt caught on yet. We'll be fine, guy who takes sports way too seriously....

they were there last week jonny boy. I didnt watch the game today, but it looked sloppy. I cant tell how bad Hughes was, but his line was nothing to write home about. Apparently he sucked arse. Its not the end of the world so lets not get carried away.

Exactly. Today sucked, but it's not like this was a critical game. Also, while Hughes was far from masterful, a good throw by Posada on a pitchout may have prevented him from getting the loss.

And again, giving up a half dozen runs is bad, but so is only scoring once. This lineup is more to blame for the early trouble than the pitching. Zero patience at the plate, no one moving runners over (except Jorge did move Abreu to third, where he stayed through the end of the inning). ARod is struggling hard. It's disgusting.

If we're not going to give the young guns leads, we can't expect them to be successful. That's a huge condition of their success.
