Hell yea we owned the blowsox im lovin this. I really dont think boston will make the playoffs that had to rip the life out of them.
I will be very pissed if Melky is not with the team as the full time LF next year. Matsui is good, but Melky is good, and much younger. Not to mention, Melky's defensive skills far outshine Matsui's. Like I've said, this should be the opening day lineup in 2007: Damon CF Jeter SS Abreu RF ARod 3B Giambi 1B Cano 2B Posada C Matsui DH Cabrerra LF How sick would it be to have our 9, 8, 7 guys be good enough to be the 1, 2, 3 on probably 20 other teams in the league? It's almost unfair.
dude i know like 4 red sox fans in my neighborhood, i just stuck four yankees t shirts in their mailboxes, they walk out to get mail early in the morning, what a rude awakening
Say what you want about Torre's handing of the staff, he's a big reason why this club is in first by 6.5 games at this stage.
What about this: Damon*, DH Jeter, SS Abreu*, RF ARod, 3B Giambi*, 1B Cano*, 2B Matsui, DH Posada**, C Cabrera**, LF * = Lefty ** = Switch
I think I'll stick with giving the credit to names like Damon, Jeter, and Abreu for constantly making contact when we needed it. I'll give credit to Proctor for managing to keep his neck connected to his upper arm with a rubber band and a paperclip. I'll give credit to Mo for being Mo. I'll thank Cano for being so good since his return, or Posada for having one of his best defensive years in pinstripes. I'll thank Villone for giving it everything he's got almost every day. I'll thank Farnsworth for bouncing back from a comebacker today to spell Mo. I'll credit Melky for being a very good surprise for us. I'll thank Moose for giving 110% of what he had, even after a rain delay. I'll thank Lidle for coming over here and making an impact. I'll thank Myers for getting Ortiz. I'll even thank Boston for having such a bleak pen. But I will not give Torre credit for this series. We won the long battle, but the war is not even close to finishing yet. How big can our guns possibly be? At some point, Proctor is going to have to say he can't do it again. Villone is going to shut down. That's going to put more pressure on guys like Dotel, who we are lucky to even see dressed to play at this point, or Farnsworth, who isn't going to be able to give us multi-inning performances. Lady luck was on our side this weekend. Eventually though, she has to make room for the fat lady to sing. Will Torre be able to hold the curtain up in October for the big encore? I am still not convinced.
Well, Matsui is a lefty, and so is Cabrera. Why would you DH Damon? He has a terrible arm, but he covers a TON of ground. I'm assuming you are saying you would revolve Damon and Matsui in center, since you listed both as DH? I wouldn't do that. Sure, defensively, they are probably about even, but I would rather Damon's range, than Matsui's slightly better arm strength. With Jeter as the cutoff, you don't need a rifle arm.
Yes, i would rotate Matsui & Damon. Cabrera is a switch hitter, not lefty. My bad on Matsui. Wow, we have a lot of lefty's in our lineup. Damon*, DH Jeter, SS Abreu*, RF ARod, 3B Giambi*, 1B Cano*, 2B Posada** Matsui*, DH, C Cabrera**, LF * = Lefty ** = Switch
Shit, I've watched almost every single game this season, and never once noticed Melky batting from the right side. Thanks for the clarification though. We do have a lot of lefties, but it usually works out where we have 1 lefty, 1 righty, 1 lefty, 1 righty, etc. down through the lineup. That is one reason it's hard to pitch to the Yankees. No matter who you bring in, he is going to have someone turned around on him by at least the next batter. Like I said, I wouldn't put Matsui in center. Damon's range is vastly better, and especially in Yankee Stadium, the more ground you can cover, the better. Matsui would make a great DH. I have no problem putting him in that spot permanently. If it came to giving Damon a rest, I would move Melky into center, and slot Matsui in left. Otherwise, Damon should be in center every day. No matter what though, if we keep Cabrera and not use him as trade bait, he should be the full-time left fielder. I think he has done more than enough to earn his stripes. Plus, he's still a baby. Our guys are really buying into Mattingly's mantra of patience, patience, patience. Melky is learning fast and that's only going to make him better as he matures. One of the big reasons we were able to beat on the Boston pen was that everyone was taking pitches, and going deep into counts on the starters. They even made Schilling work hard, and that's no small feat. You have to wonder though. If Wakefield could have been there for the Friday night start, how might the series have been different? I know we can get to Wakefield, with all the patience we have shown against him in the past, but can you imagine trying to catch up with pitches on Saturday, on top of being tired, after facing the knuckleball?
dude , your team got ass-raped..be a man and say "this weekend the yankees ass-raped my team".....if you want to complain about whats wrong with baseball....how about starting with the team that let abreu go for no reason other than saving money? the phillies have been trying to act like a small market team for years....its bullshit....they trade lidle and abreu because they dont want to pay them and then they win a couple games, decide they have a shot at the wildcard so they trade for moyer...they 'll come up short in the end and say"oh well we tried"...."too bad we cant compete with teams like the yankees".....fuck that...they had abreu and decided they didnt want to pay him.....the sox have plenty of money as well my friend but they didnt want to spend it...only their bullshit excuse is that they didnt want to mortgage the future...again, bullshit....when they won in 04 they spent a boat load of money...or did I miss all the home grown talent that helped them win the world series....your team decided to take this year off my friend...it aint the yankees fault and you sound like a little girl trying to blame "the evil empire"....now beat it
